I would suggest that you go to the humane shelter and get a puppy there instead of from a breeder. I got my mutt there and he has been one of the most caring and loving dog i know. He has never tried to bite anyone or hurt them, even little children who pull on his hair and tail. Had him for a little over 11 years now. And he only cost 35 bucks

Yeah I know... They just had to throw that link to horses in there. Buying the horse isn't the problem. Training I can do. It's the board that would kill me.

X2. We have 4 dogs. One is a puppy of a dog we got many years ago from the pound, one is a lab with no papers that I paid 50.00 for. The other is her puppy and the last is a pound puppy that is my grandkids. Dogs come here they don't leave. Sugar is getting up in the years, just turned 14. I had to put her Mom to sleep many years ago. We lose her and it's probably another trip to the pound to get another. Wouldn't want the other 3 to get lonely!!!

Give a homeless dog a home and you have a friend and companion for life.

C ocker Spaniels can be good dogs. The problem with many pure bred dogs is the inbreeding. So many of the popular breeds have been inbred so badly they are prone to various diseases and behavior problems. A reputable breeder would be the best way to go, unfortunately they will also demand top prices. Talk to them about pet quality dogs instead of show quality. Pet quality does not mean you will be getting a poor quality dog, it simply means that they have some small defect that disqualifies them for show. This could be something so small that the average person wouldn't notice it. You could also try a C ocker Spaniel rescue society. Most of the rescue societies are very good to disclose the reason the dog has been given up and what problems it may have. Here's a rescue society in New England for you to check out, good luck!!

We had an Australian Shepherd mix several years ago, super smart dog. Never was a problem when we both worked but he did stay outside. That was his choice, he started out as a house pet and then one day he just decided he liked the outside better and stopped coming in the house.

Mean little buggers and subject to back ailments. Really, they can be snappish. have you considered a Shnazer (sp). My cousin has one and it is an excellent little guy.

The mother-in-law has two. I like the wire coats better. They are both very friendly, but as with most (all?) small dogs they are loud for their size. The male is 8 and the female is 2 and these ones aren't mean at all.

You might consider taking her to a humane shelter or to an adoption day at PetsMart/Petco, and letting her see if she sees one she likes. That is a great way to get a good pet and helps rescue one. Some of the best dogs are the mixed breeds you see at these places.

I think you're right, that might be the best thing. I was trying to do it as a surprise. I can usually get enough info out of her to figure out what she wants without her knowing what I'm doing

It might not work this time...

one other breed that I have not been around a lot, but those I have I liked is the Brittianny Spaniel. They are slightly larger than the C0cker and very pretty dogs.
