Question Migraines?

Anybody get them? I've never had them in my life until the last 6 weeks or so. My head hurts so freaking bad right now I want to put an ice pick in my ear. This explains why I'm up at 0100 when I have to be at work at 0800. I'm kinda afraid to go to the Flight Doc since you can be medically disqualified for migraines. One pilot in my squadron has been DNIF'd for almost a year now for them.

As migraines often include hypersensitivity to light, staring at a computer monitor is quite painful. I doubt you have a migraine if you're using your computer surfing the net and making entries online.

However . . . believe it or not, Excedrine Migraine formula works really well. Get some.

My family is prone to migraines. I've had them off and on for about 15 years, except they quit coming about two years ago. I was having trouble sleeping and picked up some melatonin, it's a natural sleep aid. Migraines stopped about six months after using the melatonin. Didn't put the two together until I read a short article about it in Men's Health magazine. Try it, you may be one of the lucky ones that it works on. Bill

those effers hurt- i've had em my whole life. used to take 6 extra strength tylenol when i was 12- and would sleep for about 8 hrs just to get over it enough to get homework, talk do anything- i take 1 100mg Imitrex tablet now, and in about 15 mins I'm good to go-granted my pain tolerance of them/and my definition of 'good to go' is skewed because of migraines... can't have any alcohol for 24 hrs though, as it does the equivalent of alcohol poisoning to my body-

they can be food triggered, seasonally triggered, sensory triggered, stress/tension triggered

I used to have them regularly many years ago, pretty miserable. Mine were caused by birth control pills, I stopped taking the pill and I haven't had a migraine for about 20 years. I realize the pill is not the cause of your migraines but Balog is right "they can be food triggered, seasonally triggered, sensory triggered, stress/tension triggered". I had a friend who couldn't eat anything containing MSG, it would give her migraines so bad she would actually be sick to her stomach. Try the Excedrin Migraine formula, my son took it a few years ago when he was suffering migraines and as Kobi says, it does work.

I have them from time to time and have to agree with the Excedrin migraine is the best OTC you can take.

Or not....

depends on the type you get. Mine are sometimes accompanied by pain, and light doesn't bother me one bit.

The only problem is that I go blind in one eye while I'm having them....its called an ocular migraine.

Damn dude.

That sounds pretty bad. Have you seen a doctor? I know that's a crazy question to ask, but I know a few people who refuse to go see the doc.

man thats bad- mine are food based and seasonal- and come finals week, or this semester thesis defense/dissertation im counting on a nice week long drubbing.

do you take anything for yours? i can only stay on my meds for about a year before my body makes an immunity to it-( ie aspirin, tylenol, aleve, excedrin, migrazone [prescript] and within the past two months imitrex have no affect on me any more. :o )

This is the kind I get. My vision gets kind of funky & I have sharp pain, not a dull ache. If they persist, I will go to the Doc. As much fun as flying is, it'snot worth ruining my health over.

Go to the flt doc. If it is only a miagraine you can receive VA disability when you get out. When I was in I didn't go to the doc for a couple of issues and found out I cost myself over $300 per month in disability money. Whether I went to the doctor or not I still have the issues, just not the $300 to blow.

Not too mention it could be something else growing inside there. My wife was diagnosed with a brain tumor at only 35. By the size of it she had it for many, many years. Worse case scenerio it's bad and they have to crack your head open. Best case scenerio it's nothing.

I have sleep apnea. Since being on a bi-level pap(positive airway pressure) unit I have not have a migrane.
Think of wearing you aircrew oxy mask on 100% pure ox)overnight.

My wife for 45 years got migranes so bad that she would throw up. She would become incapacitated. She said child birth was a cake walk compared to her migranes. She had seen many specialists over the years. She even wound up in the hospital for treatment and cat scans. Nothing would show up or give her relief. We would take a trip either by car or by plane and that would bring them on. She would constantly get sick and throw up. She would take tons of over the counter and prescription drugs and then try to sleep in a totally dark bedroom for about 24 hours when the pain would subside. It got to the point we couldn't go nowhere. It was hard to see her go through this because there was nothing I could do.

About 7 years ago they discovered she had blood pressure problems. They treated her blood pressure with several different kinds of meds until they found the right one and BAM.................the migranes were gone. They have never returned. She still gets headaches from time to time but nothing close to what she had in the pass. Aspirin is all she needs now.

A friend of mine from work who is now retired has a wife who had them just as bad as my wife. A new drug was on the market but it was applied by syringe only. No pills. The shot was $75 each and she would take several a week but it worked. I don't know how she is today. But I was wondering if the price of that drug ever came down and if it ever became available in pill or patch form.

My wife was overjoyed by her new found health. And now a huge Plantars wart on her foot is almost gone thanks to duct tape.
