Garage Floor covering/paint/epoxy

I just bought my new house. I close escrow on the 27th (get the keys on the 28th) and will be moving in on the 2nd and 3rd. I want to go in and do up my garage floor the first weekend before we move in.

Is there any floor covering you guys recommend? Ones that you have used and had good results? Any pros/cons with the ones you used? I'm mainly concerned about durability and looks.

I'm not going to use the Home Depot one...I've already ruled that one out. I have done a bit of research and like www.originalcolorchips.com the best so far. Anyone have any experience with this one?

Thanks for any help,
Bryan

Thanks. I was just reading about your house. Nice HUGE house. Mine is only 2005 sqft and I didn't build it myself...it's 2 years old. Like to see yours when its all finished and decorated!!!

So far I'm looking at the one I mentioned above and www.Ucoatit.com.

However well it is applied and however well you look after it, sooner or later the painted or applied surfaces will crack or break up.

I have used many surface treatments here in the UK and in my US properties.

Although more expensive initially the best long term solution is interlocking tiles.

The best in Europe are Tacttiles.

They look superb and lay really easily.

I'm sure that they or a similar product are available Stateside.

This what I used. http://rust-oleum.com/product.asp?fr...ct_id=56&SBL=1

There is a new change to the product. You have to add tint to it. There is a pamphlet that comes with about 50 colors to chose from.

Mine is tan. We did a dk blue one last week. Thinking about re-doin mine another color soon.

Spills wipe up great.

Thanks...I'll look into those.

Although I'm looking for durability, I hardly use my garage other than storage. Most projects I do are done in the driveway. Mechanic jobs that would involve some type of spill will be done at a shop. So, I don't need rugged durability (per say), more long lasting (with minimum use) durability.

I'm partial to this color/scheme:

The house I'm looking at buying has yellowed, cracked linoleum(sp?) on the floor because the garage was used as a dance studio or something at one time. It's gonna be a bitch to get that stuff and the adhesive up. Hope I can still use a nice floor coating after I clean it up.

If you’re looking for the ultimate in durability, I would recommend the Rustoleum 6500 series 100% solids epoxy. This is the commercial version of the epoxy shield. We have sold this to mfg and chemical plants that run heavy forklifts over it every day, all day with no problem. One of the plants has had it down for a couple of years and the floor still looks brand new. They have some other versions that are better in heavy chemical areas, but since our Fords don’t leak like the Dodges/Chebby’s, you should not need it. The only down side is that it is more expensive and that you will have to go to an industrial distributor to get it.

Go into the industrial area for other products. They also have the grit for antislip and they used to make a glow in the dark product for emergency exits ...could be cool. I have not sold that and am not sure it is still available.

The next step up:

One last word: the prep is the most imprtant: not done right, the coating will be coming up in a few months. Clean, etch and follow the directions no matter what you use.

That one came form the www.originalcolorchips.com. You should be able to use the coating after taking out your dance floor. Might take more work though.

We've got the Rustoleum 6500 series coating in our 40' x 30' shop with NO problems.

PS: We're not easy on it either, the concrete broke before the coating did.

Bowser or Thump -
Does the 6500 have a top coat (I see a clear on the website)? I'm asking because I really dig the paint chips in the picture I posted. I wonder if I could use the chips from another brand????

Also, how much is the 6500? I have a regular 2 car garage. I don't have the exact dimension right now.

Basically go with what Bowser was showing, the cheap little setup you get from Home Depot or Lowe's won't hold up.

Cool thanks. I know what you mean...I'm [goofing off] today too! Actually, I have to go and meet the inspector/appraiser today at my new house.

litnfast - How much did that Race Deck cost you?
