No thanks I'm content with what I just did. I don't want to get the computer all messed up agian. I will just ride out this 30 day free trial and then maybe check into something else.
System mechanic is a nice suite. However, it sounds like Brandon is suggesting pirating software off of newsgroups and using keygen to break the copyright protection. I recommend against this behavior.
1. It is illegal.
2. It is unethical.
3. In your attempt to find the tools and software necessary you will likely stumble across untold number of spyware/virus/malware infections along the way.
Do it legally.

I had Best Buy's Geek Squad out the other day to install a wireless router system on my laptop and I had him check both pc's for spyware and viruses and he found a few. he installed a Webroot Spysweeper and Trend Micro PC-cillin Antivirus and said it is the top two programs for this kind of stuff. The Geek squad are good at what they do, but rather $$$. 6 hours labor, 2 software programs, 1 router installation, a total "cleaning" of both pc's $942. both of them fly now

There is nothing "rube" about that. I needed new windows I paid about $8000 for it...does that make me a rube?
You're a technical guy (I'm assuming), you said yourself you would of done it for half what he paid. The Geek Squad has a reputation of being a joke. Shouldn't he have shopped around?
I just feel that he got taken to the cleaners and should have done it himself (granted he would have had to put a good deal of time into researching how to do it).
He did have a good outcome and should feel happy, but that doesn't mean he made the best decision.
