Of course, all of that has been negated for me as I have recently become an unarmed peasant at the hands of our legal system for the next 6 years and 7 months.

Long story short, I F'd up, the law won, and 7 years of probation deny you the right to do many things, one of which is possess or be with a gun.

Update:

Found a good price at a dealer a little out of the way. Glock 26 9mm with mag/grip extension for $495. Thats seemed pretty fair I think. This will of course be the weapon we carry and train with. Later we'll get into collecting various frearms. For now though this is it. So You guys think I did okay? I like the Glocks and look forward to having one. The first of many Im sure.

I want to also really thank all of you for helping me make this decision. You guys really made it easier to narrow it down and figure out what would be good for us. Its great to be able to benefit from all your experience and expertise.Your help and advise has been invaluable.

That being said I have one more question. How long does it take to obtain a ccw? Is it an instant thing? Take the class, fingerprints, picture, pay your fee and go? Just curious cause I might like to get that done sooner than later.

Thanks again everybody,

Luis S

Glocks are good pistols. They're kinda love/hate in regards to the grip angle, but they're fine weapons overall. A cool thing too, you can use magazines from larger frame Glocks (in the case of the 26, you can use the 15 round magazine from a Glock 19, the 17 round magazines from a Glock 17, or even the 33 round magazine intended for use with the Glock 18 select fire pistol) in the smaller frame Glocks for added capacity.

In regards to the hows/whys of getting a concealed carry permit, it varies per state. It was pretty easy here in Georgia, but in general you've gotta go to your probate court for starters to get going on the paperwork. Some states require a class, Georgia didn't, and the waiting periods vary. It took about two months for mine here.

I havent had a problem with thier grip so far. Ill get used to the quirks no problem. Here in Fl. you gotta take the class I was just curious to the actualy time it took to get the licence in your hands.

The fact you can swap mags was a neat plus. Going to probably pick up a 15rd clip later on.

Btw do any of you know a good free online source for gun values? My father has an old colt .38 special w/ a parkerized finsh in great shape and was curious as to its value. Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks again for your help guys, Ill post pics when shes in my hands!

later,

Luis S

I have my conceal carry permit from florida. I sent my information in and they sent it back to me after about 2 months stating there was a problem with the signature for the officer that finger-printed me. I had 30 days to send them a new finger print card. I did and recieved the permit less than a month later. Total time including the fingerprint fiasco... right around 3 months.

BTW.. Florida is the best conceal carry permit to have, they have reproprocity with the most states.

Also.. they do the classes at almost every gun show I've been to, plus they do them at alot of the gun dealers. Should be really easy to find one.

Quintin's right. GA is one of the easiest states. Pay the $17 or whatever it was, get fingerprinted, wait for it in the mail for all intense purposes. GLad you found a Glock to your liking. You won't regret it.

Talking

A concealed carry gun is very personal. IMHO your gun probably will not be a good fit for the wife.
My daughter carries a "inside the pants" holster with a colt officers model
M1911A-1 loaded with 230 grain jhp.
I carry a Spring Armory M1911A-1 with 230 grain Black Talon defense round. Holster is a FBI-style canted forward unit by Uncle Mike's.
So you can see it's very personal. We have a gun shop close by owned by a woman. She helps the ladies with their choices

Youll love it. Accrurate as hell. Im still a rookie and I was getting some sweet grouping with it. This gun was built for me . Really solid gun no doubt about it. Im applying for my ccw this week and then Ill carry it everywhere. Definately worth the purchase!

While I got you, any recomendations for a good conceal carry holster? One for the back and one for the ankle maybe? LMK...

Thanks again,

Luis S

Glad you like it.

In regards to holsters, small of back carry ain't all that good an idea - it makes your gun hard to get to in a hurry, and you risk a debilitating back injury if you should fall on your pistol.

I use IWB holsters from Sidearmor and Comp-Tac.

Shhh!!! Dont let the wife hear you! Im looking into a Springfield 1911 as my next gun. My other choice is a Taurus PT1911 which has been very positively reviewed. ***** seem to be fairly priced. Ill use her birthday next month as an excuse. " But honey I thought you said you would like a 1911 for you birthday?" Though I would probably get shot with it!

Later,

Luis S

4. Kitchenware
3. Kitchen Utensils
2. Home Appliances
