Portable jump starters
Portable jump starters
Has anyone bought or used any of the portable jump starters. My battery went dead for the last time and I am really thinking about getting one. It is hard to find some one to help, and my car was in a parking garage so it made it even worse. Any advice would be appreciated.
I bought one at Costco a few years back, and it's served me admirably... Get the type with an air compressor also, it's been a sob trying to find air sometimes.
Sorry, I can't help you with the manufacturer...Perhaps Vector?

My dad is a Senco Rep and they recently came out with these:

Of course I got a deal on the 2 I bought, but they are really great. It has a jump starter, compressor, inverter, twin lamp flourescent light, spotlight, flasher, and serves as a 12v power source via cigarette lighter. I have used it a couple of times already to air up some tires and to jump start my Ranger.

I agree with adrianspeeder, they are the best damn invention ever. I have a cheap one from Oreillys and it has worked flawlessly. My dad has a habit of leaving his lights on now (old age maybe), so it has gotten most of its use from him and he has one coming for his birthday next month. They only vehicle it wouldnt start was a full size chevy pickup whose battery crapped out completly, than a set of jumper cables netted the same results as my portable set, so I just took him to buy a new battery and it started right up. Once again, best damn invention ever.

They range anywhere from $40 or so for a cheap one to $100 give or take for a fancy one with the air compressor and such. The one I have cost around $45 and has one cig. lighter plug and a flashlight but no air compressor. It is 600 amps I believe. The next one I buy will have a little more amps but this one works better than I expected.
I got mine at Sears, not sure of the brand name off the top of my head but like everyone else said, this is now a required accessory for my truck. It has really come in handy at tailgate parties, camping, etc.
I have this one,

I have used it numerous times, IMO it's worth it's weight in gold. I can;t imagine how I got along with out it. I've jumped the boat, several cars, my truck, lawn mower, tractor, etc, etc.
Went out to go to work one morning and the battery was dead, (I cut my arrival time down to 5 mins before I "HAVE" to be there) used it to start it to get to work and I was not late, plus it started it to do all errands that day till I could go buy another battery after work.
