Don't mess with Texas!!!!
About a couple of months ago we drove from Albuquerque, NM to some hole in the wall nothing of a town in Kansas. Drove along the 40 through the Texas panhandle. Couldn't tell you anything about Texas from the drive other than what our concierge (a rather cute girl from Texas) told us about driving through Texas, which was this:
"DON'T SPEED. The cops there are all over the place and intolerant of it."
This of course wasn't difficult advice to follow as the car we had was barely capable of high speed to begin with.
Not a lot to see in the panhandle. We had lunch in Amarillo (yawn) and of course it's hard to miss the western hemisphere's biggest freestanding cross (which I think was in Groom). Not the kind of thing you see in California.

Glad it wasn't worse for you Matt. Slow down, lead foot

You've got to be kidding!

I know about what I had kicked it up to moments before, but I had shut it down and was actually deaccelerating when he popped over the hill. So that may have helped too.
I feel your pain man. I got a ticket a week ago Sunday leaving Texas. I was in Waskom and got pulled over less than a 1000 Yards from the state line (going into Louisiana). The cop was a super friendly guy and very courteous. He was just doing his job.
I got pulled home coming home on I-44 last week, for doing 66 - 67 in a 60. The cop was doing 65.
He took my license to run it, found that I have NO violations whatsoever, told me to show some respect and have a good day.

There was also a lot of dark skin brunettes and a lot of light skin blondes, not much else. Quit frankly the lack of diveresity got old, quick. My wife made the same comment about the guys too, the majority had about the same haircut, same basic facial hair of a very few choices, same color hair and dressed the same. Seemed like everyone was dressed in earthtones. It was almost Stephen King kind of spooky.
Here everyone is in browns, blacks, greens and/or blues; I came rolling in wearing a bright orange checkered button down the front shirt, white tshirt, faded Levies, and Brown Rockports. Yeeeaaa... I blended.

Next time, try to make it to Dallas, Austin, or some other city with a population over 20. I'm sure your choices will be a lot better.
