have you seen him mourning the croc he calls Mary? Here is the video. Supposedly he died when they pulled the stinger out on video.

It's too bad. The guy was interesting to watch on tv. I liked his show. If you had to go I guess a sting ray would be the way instead of a 14 foot croc ripping you to pieces on camera and your family seeing it. By the sounds of things he went pretty quick.

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Sorry for your loss.

From the reports from EMT's and divers I have heard that is what actually killed him, it's possible that if he would have left the barb in, and doctors surgically removed it, he quite possibly could have lived. However, I can't imagine that would be my thought if I had an 8 inch barbed spine sticking out of my chest and heart. Such a sad loss

It is possible yes....

The barb could have actually "held" everything in place and given him a little more time.

He was 35 minutes from an airlift though....would have been very very difficult.

Consider the barb would have had venom too...there was probably very little chance he survived regardless of what he did or did not do.

The odds are against you when you have a barb in your heart and venom being injected in you.

I guess when god decides it's your time, your leaving whether you like it or not.

I'm impressed the guy made it into his 40s. For as much as he tempted fate, he hung in there a lot longer than anybody else would have!

I friggen hate snakes. I would never go near one let alone pick one up. I can't believe he would jump on Croc's and get so close to them in the water? My luck I would slip on the wet grass and wipe out in front of a Croc.

RIP buddy we will all miss you.

Sounds pretty judgmental to me...

Let me get this straight : You didn't see or "read much" about the incident, but you feel compelled to comment about it like a subject matter expert ? Hmm....

Well, I look at it like this: He managed to keep himself and many other workers, relatives, etc. safe in the zoo areas for most of his life. Could he protect anyone with absolute certainty from all manner of danger there ? Of course not. Statistically, he was quite capable of keeping his son safe in the crocodile exhibit. Try to forget the gut reaction to a media-hyped event - analyze the data for what it is. YOU endanger your own kids, family members, etc. more by driving with them in the car than he did in his zoo. That can easily be proven with a little DOT research. But, because we have all become used to the frequency of traffic fatalities, we accept it as normal. That doesn't mean it is "better" than what he did.

HE did not start a trend of people provoking animals - morons who watch shows on stupid MTV and the like started that trend. His entire life was spent delivering a message of conservation and respect, not animal abuse for the camera and audience's benefit...

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, as you call it. So is everyone else. When you commented on another member's behavior which, IN MY OPINION, remarkably mirrors your own commentary about someone you don't know, that made it "open" for everyone else to comment on.

I am with you. I watched his show whenever i could. You could tell he was not some "crazy" guy who just poked at wild animals for the sake of it. He was around animals all his life, his parents started the zoo as a wildlife refuge for animals. Some people can just interact with animals as he did. He was a special breed of person, one who cared so much for his animals, and all animals, that he would do anything to protect them. At least, that was my view from watching the shows. And for him to find a woman like Terry, one who shared his passion for animals, that must have been awesome. He will sorely be missed by all his fans, and most of all his family. Just goes to show, that when your number is called, it's not up to you. I don't really think he was able to handle all those crocs and all those deadly snakes for 20-something years on "luck". The man had a way with animals, and he will be missed by me at least.

God bless his family.

While this is truly sad for his family the guy was a complete unprofessional moron. NO professional, I repeat NO professional would ever put their child in a KNOWN risk situation as he did when feeding the crock.

I don’t care how good or how professional he thought he was the fact remains he wasn’t. That would be like a NASCAR driver taking their 2 year old kid for a ride during a NASCAR race. NOBODY has total control over their environment, not a NASCAR driver and not this idiot…

What’s truly sad is you got to stop and think ”Ain’t that some chit…” I mean this guy dealt with a lot of dangerous animals and he gets tagged by a very mellow animal the stingray and a direct hit to the heart I mean what are the odds?

That would be like a NASCAR driver getting killed while getting a cup of coffee…

Welcome to the club '01.. we're ****** because we don't worship this dude. Even though we admit its tragic and all that, we just think "wow... can't believe that dude lived to 44. Who would have thought he'd make it that long." eh... whatever. People can say I'm insensitive all they want, I don't care. I've been getting that most of my adult life.

a very sad tradegy indeed, steve seemed like a great guy. i guess he was what one would call fearless, doing the job i guess, he did. may he RIP.

as for the guy who said he had complete control over a croc, not only is that BS but if the croc wanted to he could of killed him so fast it'd be like in the blink of an eye, same with all of the other dangerous creatures.
