relevant, what is?
We converse about many topics here in the GD forum. Some are fun, some ROFL funny, some are serious, some are sad and some are so bizzare we wonder how we ended up talking about it.
Relevance is obviously subjective. While someone want's to talk about 'is this guy gay' or 'The left coast hurricane provided nice clouds & sunset . . .' I'm interested in what people think about current events. Hearing what others think helps my perspective, and I would guess it does the same for others.
I think this news is relevant. Anyone else think so?

The 'is this guy gay' thread is bizzare and ROFL funny and the pics in 'The left coast hurricane provided nice clouds & sunset . . .' prove that the clouds and sunset are nice. Hopefully there are a couple who also are thinking about what's going on in the world these days.

True I aggree that the majority of the GD threads are entertaining for many different reasons.
They are many relevent and worrisome problems and events going on in this world. The economy and energy prices, local politics, domestic violence etc. To me the mid-east is the more pressing.
The middle East has been a 2000 year plus ongoing cancersore. The early Greeks and the Persians, Alexander the great's father was assinated by the persians. The word assassin is Persian. I know my typing is all over the place... but to quote Kobi, I need my first coffee, it is brewing.
There are the fanatic moslim followers that as your artical reads about, the countries that finance them and their support groups that also canvas money in other countries from their x-patriots ( or blackmail their x-patriots).
The moslim religion is larger than cristianity and is growing. In Europe with the their emigration and high birth rate coupled with the low birth rate of the industrialized countries, Islam will become the largest single religion in Europe. I read this article several months ago, wish I had saved it.
The problems created by Iran I also find very troublesome as I feel that they are stirring the pot and do want to see ( as they have said, the end of Israel ). There current announcement that they support the Un cease fire in Leban, in my oppinion is just smoke and mirrors as they continue to their nuclear program. Be afraid that once they are nuclear, they will not nuke anybody but will pass along the means to others ( Hezabola? ) and would their target be Israel or the United states. I believe Israel would nuke Iran if Iran shot one at them.
The whole situation is a quagmire with no easy way out that would not be as radicle as what they are doing. It is like a pissing match with a skunk. Zealots with a religous fervor are an unnerving lot. Several people here just say nuke them but that is not the way out either.
spell checkers do not bother, and if you want to flame me do it with facts.

I think its relevant and terribly important. IMO too much time is spent by the media focusing on the negative aspects of the war and not enough touting the positive outcomes such as this one.
Historically speaking the media has a huge effect on the people's veiw on whether or not we are doing well in a war, the economy, etc. Prime example, WWII. US soldiers were dieing by the thousands but the media portrayed the good that was coming out of this and the people were largely supportive. This war, you have to search for any positive comment on it, even though troop death rates are extremely low (not that any dieing is good) and we have done lots of great things for the world and for the people of Iraq. But all anybody wants to talk about is how bad it is over there and how its not a winnable war. But don't forget these people "support our troops." The support them, just think they are a bunch of imbeciles and would be totally incompetant as warriors except for the fact they have managed to kill the women and children off.
Sorry about the rant.... I'm not proof reading either so misspellings so what. And hopefully it was easy to follow my train of thought.

Easy to follow your train of thought.
The media and war. I think the problem began with Vietnam, the technollogy and the ablity to see the war almost as it happened. The media brought the war into our livingrooms daily when the news was fresh. The parents could see their sons litterly dying in combat. As always bad news sells papers and careers are made from such reporting.
I am Canadian and we have troops in Afganistan, I am 100% behind them, but because we are taking losses the democrates here want to pull out of that country. One head up his *** Democratic politican wants to have peace talks and invite the Talliban. I was so pissed to read about it. WTF lets go backwards and desert those people, so once again they can lose the few rights the woman have, and they could live under a tolatarian regime. I know we would not accept that as a government.
According to the papers we are thrashing the Talliban but we are taking loses as well and they sure do focus on that. On the good note Canada is upgrading their armed forces... still not enough, but improving.
