Question about dealerships
Question about dealerships
Quick question guys...
There is a Sonic Blue Lightning at a dealership about an hour and a half away, and a silver is only 20 minutes away. I would rather have the blue, the silver would be so much easier to get. So here's my question, would it be possible to do everything over the phone with the dealership, and then I could go and pick it up? Or maybe even having them ship it to my local dealership and doing business through them?

Deal with one truck, one dealership at a time, less chance of you getting taken buy two dealerships who decide to inflate the price a wee bit and split the differance.
Also go in person, sales people have no intrest in wasting thier time on cold calls, get the info, price, mileage as a meens of refferance.
If you know a Ford dealer has a lightning in blue and a Ford dealer 20 min away has in in silver, booth Ford dealers know it to.

I could understand if the Blue truck was 10 hours away but what's the problem with a three hour drive? Depending on the dealership they may give you the bottom line on the phone. You could figure out what you'd be willing to pay compared to what their asking and just call them and say you have a drive and don't want to waste your time if they won't accept your offer.
I'm certain that if you walked into the dealership closest to you and told them exactly what you wanted. They should be able to get it to you for about the same price than if you drove there yourself. We dealt on a car with a dealership got to the go/no go stage and said we'd rather have this in blue than white. They found one about 2 1/2 hours away, negotiated a trade with them and we got the blue one for the same price as the white. Not all dealerships may be willing to do this, but they know its efforts like that, that make people buy cars from them in the future too.
I did everything over the phone and e-mail when I bought my truck. Told them what I wanted and they went 200 miles to get it, then drove it 200 miles back. I never saw my truck until I went to sign to papers.
I went to the dealer to buy mine, they had two locations. I took a trade in. They had two in stock, one black and one silver. I wanted the black one. Took almost 5 hours to buy my lightning, I was out the door twice, when we finally came to terms, the black had sold at their other location. I was out the door again, they lowered the price by another $1,000.00 so I took the silver one. Glad I did. The silver is really quite nice. I always have enjoyed the negotiating in contract work and vehicle purchases.
Guess what I am trying to say is that, buying the truck is also part negotiating and you should go in person. Their counteroffer is still not their best price. If you can find out the wholesale for the truck that would be a good idea of their base line. Consider playing the dealerships against each other. With gass prices, lightnings may be a slow seller. good luck.

I test drove a truck at the dealer i was working with, and told them I would rather have .... The next day he faxed me 4 different window stickers, I picked one of them. Then on a day off work they paid me 50 bucks to drive an Escape to the other dealer about 2 1/2 hours away and bring mine back to them.
A lot of dealers will work with you, if your wants and needs are fairly reasonable.
Go test drive the silver one and tell them you like it but would rather have it in blue.

Letting a dealer find it for you works in most cases.
However, they aren't building the Lightning anymore.
There can be no exchange for like-kind.
If the two dealers are owned by the same parent organization it would be possible.
Or if they have 28 of the same thing sitting on the lot in different colors then sure.
My sister just bought a new Pontiac G6 convertible.
It's a new model, just released.
She wanted Red/Brown interior.
The dealer had Red/Black interior.
A dealer 20 miles down the road had the road the right one.
Her dealer called about a swap, the answer, 'Hell no.'
She had drive to the other dealership.
They are starving out there, the good friends network is shutting down on new or limited production vehicles of which a Lightning certainly qualifies..
