A guy once warned me about thinking I was safe if I had the patent.
He said if its a really good idea, some big company just starts making and selling them like crazy. They put them is stores all over the country. It could cost you 100 grand in legal fees and 3 years to get it into court and thru all the appeals processes. When you win, they stop making it and you get 125 grand - but the big company already made all the money and saturated the market.

The guy suggested selling them the patent for a moderate price and maybe getting a few cents off each one.

Good luck

If you can make them yourself, with a professional finished appearance, you would be crazy not to.

Save your money on that patent as it will be of little use, as discussed.

Start a web site and put them on Ebay to get started.

You may only sell a few a month to start, but the possibilities are endless.

I hope you mean Bill Gates because he's a bazillionare and not because he's forced people to use an inferior product that craps out all the time.

Wouldn't you still need a patent? If someone sees what you're selling on eBay they can produce it and if they have the cash to market it better than you then people will buy from them and you'd be SOL, no? I don't know much about patents.

zap. remeber this thread

what happened to $1k.

sorry but i think you are making a mistake. the only people that are going to make money on this is the lawyers.

i would know the market, i would know how much it would cost to manufacture 10, 100 or 1000 parts, i would look into any liabilities you might run into selling a lock, (if it still gets stollen will you be resposible) if someone cuts their hand putting it on or off are you responsible.

how much will it cost for packaging if it is to sold in a retail store, if you sale it yourself how much $$ in internt marketing and site management.

lastley i would have a general number from the manufacturers about just how many of the plows are produvced in a year and expected life of the product, another words how many could you potentially sale, no way that even half the owners will buy this product.

i think you have a good product with the potential to make some nice side money, but 12k before you even have a potential customer or a set manufacturing plan sounds like a lot of money. why not take it to the local place that sales the product, as them for either a customer list of people to call or give them an information sheet and tell them to mail out to all the customers and see what kind of response you get.
