I am sure we have all had our moments, but, there is an entertainment value in all this and..... some extra value with Mattineer.

The ridge line is a nice little unit to drive, it's quick, gets better mileage than a full size truck and if I needed a urban city car, I would buy one, But Honda should be strung up for even attempting to claim this a truck.

Hey Rock. If I started something I shouldn't have, I apologize. I've just seen all too many posts of late about how crappy our trucks are. Geez, you'd think this forum has evolved into the Ford Graveyard Forums. I only intended to lighten things up a little and give folks a laugh and some perspective. I would never go to another site and stir up trouble. I'll do that here among friends.

I have a hard time calling anything without a real ladder frame a truck. I was watching Motorweek last night and they had an Explorer for a long term test. Very favorable. In passing, they mentioned the Honda Pilot. Stating it's a nice SUV but not ready for heavy work due to the uni-body construction. Basically the Ridgeline has the same.

I'm loathe to reply for fear of someone reacting negatively, but then, hell. I've just been seeing so many posts downing our trucks of late, and that from Ford owners!
You are correct. The Ford product is built, well, Ford tough. These are great trucks, and great-looking trucks at that. Of all the other "trucks" out there today, to me only the Ford really says TRUCK. The Titan comes close, and is a damned good-looking vehicle, but Ford's got it goin' on. Dodge had some cool styling at one time. GM and Toyota have always struck me as hideous as regards styling, and the Ridgeline doesn't even qualify.
Yes, the Fords have their problems. In particuliar, whoever decided to locate the O/D button where it is on my truck was an idiot. I'm always accidentally taking it out of O/D. Yes, plug changes can be a bit of a problem, and there are some other minor things I've seen described. But come on, folks. At least these trucks won't crumple in the middle when crossing a ditch.
.....And you can bet, if and when Honda does decide to build a real truck , we WILL have something to worry about. Ford may well go the way of the carrier pigeon.

no way. Ford has been building trucks forever and been the leading best selling truck now for 30 some odd years. Honda can't build a truck overnight and expect it to become better then Ford trucks that have been in production for years and years.

Theres no way I could ever see a Honda so called truck ever out doing a Ford F-150, theres just no way, they can't, its imposable. Maybe if they build a truck today, maybe in the next 30 years or so maybe it will become close to what the F-150 can do, but it will take time, just like the Titan, that POS ugliest excuse for a truck needs a lot of work, but being that the truck is going on 4 years of building by Nissan, thats to be expected to have the problems is has. It will take Nissan a long time to get a truck right.

Basically, Honda makes little small tin cars and they can't and will never build a real full size truck ever to compete with Ford

Has anyone seen the chewing gum commercial that asks the question, "If we make it last longer, won't we sell less?" Being the best selling truck on the market is not the same thing as being the best truck on the market.

Edmunds.com Forecasts June Auto Sales: Imports Gaining Market Share Halfway Through 2006

The combined monthly U.S. market share for Chrysler, Ford and General Motors (GM) domestic nameplates is estimated to be 55.5 percent in June, down from 63.1 percent in June 2005 but up from 54.0 percent in May 2006.

While I will be the first to tout Ford trucks as the industry standard, I am not naive. I recognize the focus on quality the import producers put on their products. Let's look at the success of the Civic, the Camry, and little Nissan pickups that run forever. The imports have targeted certain sectors of the market in order to gain acceptance over the years, and they have succeded.
The last bastion of the market is the truck sector. Nissan and Toyota have broken the ice, and I suspect Honda will follow suit with a "real" truck. When these producers perfect their products, and if Ford fails in its corporate reorganization efforts (for that is where their problems lie), and fails to put a little more emphasis on quality, the blue oval could well disappear.
Understand, Ford is closing plants as we speak, and the imports are gaining market share. That's not exactly a formula for long-term success.
Lee Iacocca predicted Ford's demise long before now. Ford's quality trucks have kept it alive, and can do so in the future, but only if Bill Ford gets his act together and realizes the threat the imports could pose.

I know how people like to dig up old posts... Well, I can't wait till the day someone digs this up in response to mountaineer's post that he just turned 400,000 trouble free miles in his old H150 4x4... while averaging 45mpg...
