Yep, I read the Falcons are based upon a military jet, (At least when they were initially built, and that is why they are so rugged.

They have intercontinental range, and can fly higher and in some cases, faster, than commercial airliners. I don't know if the 747 is still the speed king, with the introduction of the 777 and Airbus A380, (Now that the Concorde is grounded), but they can cruise at damn-near 600 mph.


Ironically, the old 707 (Dash-80 & KC-135) was faster...

The older F10, F20 and parts of the F50 were based on the Entendard (a carrier based fighter/bomber). As for speed and altltude an airliner doesn't stand a chance. I have seen video of a test flight on a F50 with the mach indicator reading .98. I have heard rumors of F10s going higher. The F7X has a max speed of .90 mach. I believe the ceiling is 51,000, and the range is 6000nm.
