Ah the DC-10 (Or Maybe MD-11, hard for me to tell from that pic)... I've flown on those before. Someting to be said for a plane that can take off in Dallas, Fly to the eastern seaboard and turn north up to NYC, then climb from 31,000 to 37,000 to cross the Atlantic, then land in Frankfurt, Germany, 11H:20m later, having never stopped for fuel. Those babies have long legs, not 747 long, but- still pretty long...

A few of the jets I've flown on before:

United Boeing 747-400 (LAX to Tokyo, Japan; 14 hours, non-stop)
Pan Am Boeing 747-200 (Been in the c0ckpit, while in-flight over the Atlantic)
American Airlines McDonnell Douglass DC-10
American Eagle (Turbo Prop: MLU to DFW...Never again)
Delta Airlines Lockheed L-1011
Delta Airlines Boeing 737
Delta Airlines Boeing 727
Delta Airlines MD-88
Delta Airlines MD-80
Delta Airlines MD-90 (You probably can tell I liked to fly Delta)
Delta Airlines Canadair Regional Jet (Until this happened)
US Airways Boeing 737
US Airways Airbus A321
US Airways Embraer IMB-170
America West Boeing 737
America West Airbus A320
Northwest McDonnell Douglass DC-9
Southwest Boeing 737

I haven't flown Lufthansa yet, but I hear they are the next best thing to a chartered flight, in terms of luxury and service...

Still haven't flown on: 757, 767, 777

Also flew on:
UH-60 Blackhawk (Doors open, NOE, nice...)
CH-47 Chinook
OH-58 Kiowa
AH-1 Cobra: Missed it by that much... Damn national Guardsmen!!

Coming into Laguardia, the pilot took us out over the Alantic, then approached LGA from the northeast heading southwest... At least, that's what he said he was doing... Being unfamiliar with the NYC skyine, I guess it made sense.. I peeped the airports on Google earth; they are pretty close.

If Riker Island (the prison) was on your right & Shea Stadium was on the left, you were coming from the NE.

Emirates Air is supposed to be the best in the world for luxury & service. Problem is, look where they fly to. They better give me good service if I'm flying to the freaking middle east & it ain't on my own KC-10.

Lufthansa is supposed to be one of the best, if not the best in the world to work for. In Germany, the flight attendants have to meet appearance standards. Not so much in the US. On the last commercial flight I was on. San Antonio to Dallas to Philly, the American Airlines (they SUCK *****) FA look likes she was about 250 lbs & could take me two out of three falls in a WWE ladder match.

Flight attendants used to be sexy... Now they're hiring any ho who's not afraid of heights...

But, there still are a few super sexy FA's out there. There was this one sister on my America West flight, svelte, and sexy as hell, and her hips swayed in a way that was down-right pornographic. I hit that 2 or 3 times, in my mind... (2003)

(1994) I'd driven to Indianapolis with my wife who was going to AIT up there (Ft. Benjamin Harrisson), she was goign to be there 3 months, and I was on a Delta flight from Indianapolis, IN to Mobile, AL, to Monroe, LA. The flight was pretty full to Mobile, but on the Mobile to Monroe leg, there were three passengers on the entire MD-88, and four FA's. One came back and spoke to me, and next thing I know, all four were back there... They were all pretty cute...

"Oh you got married" "You're in the Army?" "Where are you stationed?" "Where is your wife?" "Wow, you have big arms, do you work out?"

My head was naturally big (7 & 1/2) but when I got off the plane, it had ballooned up to 8 & 3/4. They gave me a sack full of peanuts, and about 12 of those mini cans of coke.

Now, if I can only get that kind of luvin' at the Plano & Frisco Hooters, I'll be a happy man...

At least you didn't say this happened in one of those nice establishments where the young ladies like to dance on poles & take off their clothes. It never fails to amaze me when we go into the strip joint with a junior crew member. Within 3 drinks, he's yelling "Dude, she likes me". No kidding? Stop throwing money at her and see how much she likes you.

Shortly after I joined the AF, I took a flight from Turkey to Philly. We stopped in Aviano, IT, Sigonella, Cicily, Frankfurt, GE & Lages, Azores. It was a MD-11 with 365 seats. Counting me, there were 104 people on that flight. The flight attendants were so bored they basically hung out with any passenger that was still awake.

Yeah... It's some of the most congested airspace there is...
Sounds like you came in on the

These plates should give you some visual reference.

If you are ever in the area, head to Jones Beach some time around sunset, and look to the west from the shoreline. You see all the air traffic lined up like a string of pearls... it's a pretty neat sight if you are in to these things.

Tri Jets rock. The DC-10 & MD-11 are some of the coolest looking planes in the sky. How'd you like to see this as you're waiting to take off?

I didn't know they put afterburners on the MD-11. No wonder Fed Ex gets my packages to me so fast. The photo is a optical illusion by the way. Looks cool though.

This bada$$ doesn't need afterburners to deliver packages.

However, one thing I have learned is that we have gotten so used to special FX that we think it looks real, and that real life does not look as good as special FX.

Therefore, it may be real . . . but a little voice in my head sez no.

Hated the DC10 (now MD-11) Liked the Tri-Star L1011 much better.

It's actually just the landing lights of an aircraft on final approach in the exhaust gases. Like I said, an optical illusion. The L-1011 is a great aircraft as well, but no where near as succesful or capable as the DC-10 or MD-11.

I always liked the DC-10, but I loved the L-1011. AFter that DC-10 lost and engine, the cartwheeled into oblivion, I was sorta leary about them, but crossing the Atlantic 5 times in one, made me feel a little better.

The L-1011 impressed me, even as a child, after hearing about the one that lost it's engines over the Atlantic, and managed to coast from however many miles off land it was, in for a safe landing. Delta flew the L-1011's, I've flown from Frankfurt to DFW a few times on them; looking out the window and seeing the "Rolls Royce" engines... Very nice...

Lockheed never had a hit in commercial aviation, I think that, and the tri-jet stigma (After that DC-10 cartwheeled) is what sealed the L-1011's fate. They are damn-near identical, until you get to the middle engine, that is where an aircraft enthusiasts can spot the major difference... It's right there, to me, where the L-1011 seems more sturdy than the DC-10.

Damn, I thought I could be an ATC, but looking at the PDF file make me realize that wasn't for me... Jeez Louise...

Yeah, I know what you mean about the lights, If you're in North Plano, you can see them lined up approaching from the east, to head into DFW. We've got two airports here, Love Field, and DFW. DFW International Airport is massive; Go to Google-Earth and peep that bad boy.

7 runways and 5 terminals (A - E)! Coordinates: 32.90 N, 97.04 W

JFK Int'l = 4 runways
LAX = 4 runways
Atlanta Hartsfield = 4 runways (If you die and go to Heaven or Hell, you still have to change planes in Atlanta)
Denver = 5 runways
Dulles =4 runways (Damn, remind me not to fly into Dulles, those runways are JACKED!)
O'Hare = 6 runways.
