DSL Help Por favor

Ok guys, my DSL is pissing me off. Every time somebody calls, we lose the internet until they are done with the phone call. Then, you've gotta go reset the modem. The system isn't wireless, and there are no routers either, just the phone line to the modem, then the ethernet cable to my computer. It's SBC Yahoo/ AT&T Internet service, with a Speedstream Modem. How can I fix this?

Do you have a filter before the modem? I'm not quite sure on the details.

Filters are everywhere, on all phone lines before the phone, and I'm wanting to say that we had one installed on the actual line coming into the house. I've tried emailing Yahoo/AT&T but they keep telling me their help services are down. Great.

If I remember right, the filters go before each phone, and no filter on the DSL modem...

You might want to google a "homerun". It splits the line outside the house at the NID, and you run a dedicated line from the NID to the DSL modem. It is better than using line filters.

That's a lotta work NetWurker. And there is a filter on the DSL line too, the filter that plugs into the phone jack has two outputs, one for the phone and one for the DSL line.

If filters are all on correctly then -

1- disconnect all phones from outlet and leave out for like 10 mins, then plug everything back in and try again. (this is one test that sbc might make you try)

2- Call sbc, they should be able to test your lines and there might be a kink in the system.

Net, here's the deal. I'm 18, living at home, and am leaving for college on Saturday. I'm just tired of having my service interrupted. Granted, I don't want for my mom to have to deal with this, but that's a lot of work. Is there anything else I can do besides running a dedicated line? I'm going to try emailing Yahoo again soon...

You should NOT have a filter on the DSL line. You have to have a filter were ever a regular phone or dial-up type modem is used. This includes things like satellite receivers. If you have a bad filter, it will cause problems like you stated. To test for a bad filter, you would disconnect all the filters and phones etc from each wall box and try calling your home by cell or some other way. If no problem occurs, hook the lines back up one by one and try calling each time you hook one up until you find the bad on. If your DSL fails when nothing else is hooked up, you need to contact your provider.
Yes a PITA, but about the only way you are gooing to find out reason.
I had a filter fail , got flooded, and had no dial tone or DSL.

some filters have dual outlets on back, 1 for unfiltered to dsl, 1 for filtered phone.
