I took the next exit which was a mile away and took a back highway that was 5 miles north of the highway I was on. It was slower traffic, but at least I wasn't a sitting duck for a radio call.

I had a friend with a 5.0 GT back in 1990 (when cops drove Mustang's) and his alarm sounded like a siren.

One night we were returning from Tucson to Ft. Huachuca, and some kids (probably soldiers too) in a cheesy convertible, (Capri, Lebaron, or whatever) went past us at a pretty quick clip. I said, "You ought to run up on them fast like a cop would, then start flashing your headlights with the siren on." We both laughed, thinkign it was a good idea. The 302 roared to life as he down-shifted from 5th ro 3rd at 70 MPH, and we took off. We ran up on them, and he hit the panic button, which sounded the alarm, then started flashing his high beams.

Drivers know what cop headlights look like and back then, only the Taurus, Thunderbird and Mustang had those headlights. We ran up, and with lights and siren blaring, we pulled them over. Just as we were dropping through 30 MPH- pulling onto the shoulder, we popped around them, blew the horn and gunned it. They gave chase through Huachuca City at maybe 80 MPH with their high beams on, but with 5% tint, they were of no avail. Eventually they fell way back, and we cruised on to Ft. Huachuca.

Looking back, that was pretty stupid.

Good thing we didn't get shot at, or worse... shot.

I've watched that movie too many times. One night I was cruising up the intertate with the cruise control set at 100mph, not in the f150, passed a state trooper sitting in the middle. He wasn't shooting radar or anything but he knew i ws flying. so like a mile, mile and a half behind me i finally see the red and blues come on. I chose to just floor it. I got up the road a bit, hid behind an 18wheeler and watched him fly right passed me. Needless to say I got off the next exit

I bet they were scared to death at first. Looking back on it, even though it's only been 5 to 6 years, I think they were both stupid instances. But I had the tools and the stupidity and got away with it.

If it was more blaintant I would have never tried to run but in each instance I had a very significant chance of getting away and avoiding a crap load of trouble with my parents.

My only regret was not keeping that car. That thing was so light and such a sleeper. I loved the looks on the faces of the other guys as I'd pull away from them looking completely stock.

several times... my favorite escape was when me and my friend rode our four wheelers down one of the main roads in our town doin like 75. the only reason we even got on the road was to get the cops after us so we were well aware of what was in store for us. there were 3 cops cars behind us when we finally lost them. they only chased us for like 2 or 3 minutes but that was the biggest adrenaline rush I have ever felt in my life.

Try 45 on an old, wobbly Honda 3-wheeler...

That'll put some hair on your chest... Kids used to ride those on the streets back in the early 80's (I wanted a 4-wheeler bad) but, before I could convince Mom to get me one, they banned them from paved roads, in town. A few kids got killed and seriously injured on them 93-wheelers) in the 1979 - 1984 time frame. I either wanted that, or the 6-wheeler...

Yep, when was the last time you saw a kid on a Go-Kart? I guess all of that stuff got banned too...

I don't see why a 4-wheeler woudl be banned- that's got to be safer than a motor cycle- just put some DOT approved lights on the emmer-effer, and better "street" tires. What else would it need- to be street legal? It's not like Motorcycles require seat belts. Make the owner's get a motor cycle license to operate it on city streets, and go for it...

I've heard of a Honda (or maybe it's a Kawasaki, I forget) that'll do 81 MPH.
It was in Popular Mechanics a few years ago...

Quadzilla, or something...

then you need to go back in time and read Hersh's "VD in the 80's" stories

jd150,

i went to search option here and looked into 'vd in the 80's'

then i thought to myself, 'self, why would you search a message board on a topic like 'vd in the 80's', so i stopped my search.

the i read a little further down where bighersh looked like he wanted to seperate himself from any such title, and again thought to myself 'self, good thing you stopped looking, even the quoted author wants nothing to do with the topic'.

what is the relationship between myself, and someone who may, or may not be bighersh's feelings on venerial disease in the 80's? what gives?

it was a joke. when you said of Hersh's experiences:

"i would never share an experience like that here."

I thought I'd give you a ficticious Hersh story that should many would not have shared.

Hersh is a cool guy that has shared many of his "experiences" with us (not to mention his kilt fetish)
