A witness to an accident today
I was on my way home from houston with the family and we stopped to find a place to eat. I was driving down this road and stopped for a light. As the light changed the cars in front of me moved up some and I let this kid (18 yr) in a f350 supercab dullie out. He shot accross my lane and into the left lane turning left. He did not slow down and got t-boned by a lady in a explore. It happened right next to me........the kid was okay. The lady got her arm all messed up (ambulance took her to the hospital).
There is a reason that I'm posting this and it is not just say there was an accident.
First if someone let you out nad you crossing traffic please look even if someone flags you like it clear. You are the one in charge of your safety.
Second NONE else stopped to help out. I was the only one and it was not a busy road ether. It was me, a cop, and a game warden. Luckly the cop was coming through the intersection when it happened.
Take a fisrt aid class and help out..................... Sorry just a little ranting and feel free to flame me if you must.

I'm glad you stopped to help. It could have been my Uncle Bill that lives in Beaumont.
But that is exactly why I do not allow people in line if I think they will be crossing my lane. In fact a fellow tried to let me in this morning, but he didn't see the jeep coming up behind him. Good thing I did, or I would have gotten hit. When I pointed at the other vehicle, he looked in his rear view and saw and realized what could have happened and mouthed a "sorry" to me. But, I have done the same thing. Could have happened to anyone.
But again thanks for stopping to help. We need more like you out there.
You have no idea how much trouble you might save for that person by just filling out a witness statement sheet at the scene. Many times it makes the difference in going to court or not, and takes alot of stress off of the person not at fault. Many times it is one drivers word against the other.

I spose I should really go up to the person NOT at fault & say "I saw everything, here's my #, that other girl driver sucks. BYE!"

I always try to leave a gap so people can get onto or off the road, but I never wave them in. If you do wave them in and there is an accident, you may have some liability in the accident. I hope that the lady is ok, and that you don't have any issues. I would also stop if I thought I could help.
See I don't ussaully let people in and he did not have a blinker on saying he was going left. I could not see the right side. I just assumed he was going the same way. I also did not see the other vehicle coming ( not that I was looking for it). This make two accidents I've been a witness too. The other was 5 months ago and a women with two kids was run off the road by a van. She hit the new wire median barrier and flipped her mountainer into oncoming traffic. This was in beaumont and we had 15+ people on the secne in seconds. Noone got hurt. Kids didn't even cry.
See I thought about that. No I did not wave him in. I did talk to the office on the scene and he said that the driver was at fault. He said it dose not matter because it is his responsiblity to look for traffic.

You did the right thing by stopping.
People just can't be bothered to lend a hand when it's needed anymore. I live by one simple rule, I cannot expect someone to help me if I'm not willing to help somebody when they need it. It's selfish to expect help when you won't help someone else.
Never mind the fact that you have a legal responsibility to help when you encounter a situation like the above mentioned accident.

Sorry redrascal, just venting from another thread. Stopping to help out makes you one of the good guys.
Ive seen a few bad accidents. i stop only when i am a witness to it or my help may be needed. if there are already a few people stopped then i don't want to congest the area anymore so i don't stop.
the last accident i saw was in the winter on the interstate in the snow. i stopped to help and was there for about an hour. i even had my truck on the news because the local news crew showed up. i think i may have posted about it here.

I've made the same mistake(and got t-boned myself). I guess I believed the guy that was letting me out into traffic had looked and saw it was safe to go. My fault for not thinking and looking my damn self.
Also, watch for people. I saw a 16 yr old "kid" decide that he was going to j-walk across 6 lanes to get to the other side just because the light was red. What he didn't do was look before he ran out from behind a full size van and was hit by a full size Dodge Ram going about 35 mph. I saw him launch through the air and turning head over heels once or twice before landing.
My understanding is that he was fractured from head to toe on the left side of his body, but he should recover just fine. My stomach still tightens up when I see ANYONE too close to the street and I saw this about 2 yrs ago.
Not trying to hi-jack the post, just trying to let people know to really try and watch for "the other guy".
Sorry for the rant

I witnessed a jeep flip over about a year and a half ago. I was on our interstate loop and we had to go over 2 overpasses, one over a train track and the other over another highway and then we would be up on a 3 1/2 mile 8 lane bridge. There was a group of about 20 cars that were all riding the same speed and were all too close together and I was a little behind this group by myself riding in the right lane. This area it is common for people to drive 80mph+ because the bridge is so open and wide.
Well coming up to the over pass over the train tracks, this red Saturn came past everyone doing probably close to 100mph and then went from the left lane all the way across the middle lane into the right lane. Well this other car had to slam on brakes to avoid an accident. He was going about 70 and he swerved to the left onto the grass and missed the guardrail and then swerved back up into the travel lanes and then hit a Jeep Cherokee Laredo on the rear quarterpanel and the Jeep flew into the air and flipped over and then landed back on its wheels crushing half of the cab in. There were also several other cars that had it each other.
Since I was a little farther back and saw this happened, I immediately grabbed my phone and dialed 911. Of course this was just north of the county line so I got the wrong counties 911 and had to be transferred. I must have waited for about 30 seconds for someone to answer. I finally told them what happened and where it was located at. I also told them of the rollover and someone may be seriously injured. There were several people at the accident scene that had stopped to help the rollover vehicle. Since I had called 911, and was already past the scene I didn't stay. I wish I would have. I thought about breaking the law and trying to find the car at fault but it was too late, he was long gone and I would have never caught up to him in the truck. I also decided that would not be a good idea either as I could get into an accident.
Witnessing an accident like that is scary. Especially when you are right there and if you were about 3 seconds ahead of yourself you would be in the accident as well or worse, could have been the rollover vehicle.

This kid had a big enough vehicle that he should have been able to see everything around him. He just did not bother to look. Even if you had a large vehicle, he still should have been able to see around you easily. I bet he learned his lesson.
NEVER TRUST ANYONE, especially when it comes to driving.
