Watch how you rip your CDs in iTunes. By default it rips them into some ghey Apple format. You need to poke around the setting to change it to MP3 so you can use it for other players, CDs, etc... fookin' Apple. At least if you jack it up you can convert the apple format to MP3.

But iTunes can burn CDs for you, and if you have an iPod, why would you be using another player? And, the AAC format is a helluva lot less lossy format than mp3. A 128kbps AAC file will sound immensely better than even a 192kbps mp3 file. Just my experiences.

We now join your thread already in progress.

P.S.--DO NOT ALLOW ITUNES TO "KEEP YOUR MUSIC FOLDER ORGANIZED." In iTunes, go to Edit-->Preferences-->Advanced Tab-->Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized. DO NOT check that. It makes your music folder a living hell. Trust me.

See, that's how it sounds, on the surface. However, it LITERALLY organizes the files by artist, then album. Each artist (or artists, if there is more than one on the song) gets his/her (their) own folder. So, if your favorite group ever does a collaborative song with someone, it goes in it's own folder, even if it's only one song! I just think their management system is horrible, to separate everything out by artist, then by album.

For example, I have a Jack Johnson album with six songs that are by him and others. So, each of those songs goes into its own "Jack Johnson + other" artist album, then into the album it appears on folder. And soundtracks are horrible, since different artists contribute, ultimately giving 10+ artist folders when the album could have been kept together in one.

That is why you need to check the "Part of a compilation" setting for the song......I think....I have not tried it yet though......not that far on my collection yet....

If you ever want to rip DVDs to your iPod Video, check out http://www.cucusoft.com/iPod-Video-Converter.asp This little program, in one step, will rip the DVD to the iPod ready format. It costs money, but it is better than the two-step free options by far.

Lots of other programs you can use.
I used EphPod before, great program, easier to add and organize, but this was like a year ago. Probably newer ver out or anothe program that does it better.

Never really got into the IPOD thing too much, returned it before a month.

Best part of EphPod was you could also copy the music off your IPOD to a computer.

I'm surprised Itunes does not allow this. I lost my other computer (sys32 corrupt) and now I'm going to lose all my songs of which I paid for. What is the best way to get them off the Ipod and into the Itunes on this computer.

sys32 doesnt mean all your stuff is gone. Use a bootable windows disc and install it again, all files in old directories are saved as long as you dont format the drive (quick format or slow).

Or get another hard drive, even temporarily and use it to bootup and install windows, then connect old hd and take everything off.

Let me know if you need some help or cough software cough.

Or use a program like EphPod, or someother one like it, then just open it up, connect your ipod and its much like windows explorer and can copy the songs off to anywhere on the hd...

I just remember it took like over 1 1/2 hrs to copy over 30 gigs of songs off from old usb 1.0

That's the cool part. You can choose what you wish. If you don't mind lesser quality, you can go with roughly 200MB per film (1:30 runtime movie) all the way up to very high qualiy, roughly 2GB per film (1:30 runtime movie). So you can play with the setting and see what they look and sound like on your iPod. If you do end up buying the program, we can talk more about specifics settings, if you'd like.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of EphPod, so lame how Itunes doesn't allow reading from the Ipod (the current songs and importing them into the playlist). I'll be downloading EphPod thanks to you, hopefully I can download the songs via ephpod and then drag them into Itunes fairly quickly. And how the hell do you fill the entire Ipod with 30gigs of music Joe, I'd need to shove a bunch of videos on there to ever get to that. Run pretty slow? Mine runs slow as it is (Black Video 30gig). Speaking of which I've converted my wheeling video's to play on the Ipod as well as my razr but those don't even take up that much.

As for the computer, I have 2 hdd's in that computer (200gig & a 40gig sata) and I've partitioned the hdd via fdisk in an effort to boot into the 40 gig but it's clear its going bad. I've since transfered most of the info to the 200gig but I only use that for storage so I need to replace the 40gig.
