Lost Job before i even started it

well last wednesday i came down with some sort of respitory illness. friday i lost my voice. and i still havent gotten it back. today was to be my first day at dell and starting the training to learn the software stuff for technical support. but i had to call in sick. i went to the dr. cause i was feeling extra ****y today. well turns out dr told me i would have progressed to pnemonia within a day or two. cause my bronchitus is fairly severe now. so he put me on meds and wrote me a note for work and told me i shouldnt return untill atleast wednesday. well i called the dell/spherion recruiter told her what was up. and she said well since u cant miss anymore than one day of training than were going to have to replace you. so i lost my ****ing job! spent all this money going to n from austin to deal with the paper work about 80 bucks in gas. all this other crap we had problems with its like damn what else can go wrong in me starting this job and i guess as it turns out i lost it. i didnt know they got let u go for being sick with bronchitus a fairly severe bacterial infection... i guess i shoulda gone and coughed in that *******s face. but i didnt wanna go in get everyone else sick then they have to deal with same crap as me loosing their job cause they got sick. but what doesnt make since to me is if im being replaced by someone that means they will start the training course over so why cant i start it over? i guess just goes to show u Dell dont give a ****! so yeh.. my week is sucking

Not a good impression on the first day to call in sick.

Ahh that sucks dude, but yea hard lesson learned, in the corporate world employee's are a dime a dozen.

If I really want/need a job then I will be there for atleast the first 30 days as long as I am consious and breathing. Probably be there atleast 15 minutes early too. I don't care if I have to pay a nurse to push my hospital bed thru the doors I will be there.

yeh i wanted the job but with so much ***** that already had gone wrong or became difficult i had the feeling my health was more important thant the job. but i guess its one of those things nice guys finish last. and i guess its better that one person lost their job instead of me going in gettin everyone else sick. and they loose their jobs to.

Well sorta, while working help desk I could have got away with grunts and breaths. (Actually did on most mornings)

They can send me home and won't have to tell me twice, if they ask you to go home then it's typically not a penalty.

While you’re initial actions may seem perfectly reasonable to you, not going in to get others sick, and quite frankly I could understand that and see it as logical the point of the matter is Dell has no idea about you.

Perception is everything in life and first impressions are just that a perception of the type of person you “may” be. In today’s world there are so many American workers who are just plain lazy and useless but the laws are stacked in their favor to protect the useless and lazy and make it near impossible to fire them.

That being the case you should thank the thousands of useless and lazy American workers for your job loss. If the laws were actually fair for everybody, which includes the employer, they most likely would have given you an opportunity.

Since the laws are stacked against them and your first impression to your employer is ”Here’s another one that will end up always calling in, will most likely be late, probably not very productive, lets cut our losses now as it won’t cost us a penny in legal fees and it won’t take us months to get rid of him IF he turns out to be another useless and lazy American worker…”

While I am not in any way trying to put you into the category of “useless and lazy worker” you do have to put yourself in their shoes and if you do so, honestly, you will see they made a very good and logical decision. They had no other choice and again thank the slackers who are still in the work force and not because the employers want them there…

Well I look at it a little different. You say you went thru a lot of hassle and crap getting to the interview and fnally getting the job, maybe this is just the final straw thats telling you, this isn't the job for you. Think of this..do you really want to work for a company that could give a rats azz about you or anyone else?? They must have a revolving door at that place...."Mr. Smith is sick today boys, lets can his **** and get the next sucker in here and see how long he lasts...hahahahahaha"

Everything happens for a reason. Trust me on that one. Sometimes you may never know the reason, but it happens anyway. Get better, look for another job while your home laying around sick as a dog and then get your **** back to work...It always works out.

Good luck and get well soon.

I'd have gone in but then again I'm an idiot and go to work sick because of some misguided sense of loyalty and duty.

STUPID!!! (me not you )

I do it because unless I'm dieing I don't want to use my sick days on laying in bed sleeping, being sick. I can go to work and feel just as bad and sleep there...... er I mean... ooops did I say that outloud?
Anyone that dares to bother me when I'm sick deserves to get what ever I have. Most keep thier distance and friends will pull my slack, (I do it for them in return).

Anyway, then I really do take a sick day on a nice sunny day... funny how the lake makes you feel better when your sick....
