Anyone done porting and polishing?

Being that I am so curious and broke, I often look at free ways to soup trucks up. I came across this and wondered if any of you guys have seen it? http://www.martelbrothers.com/catalo...D-p-15508.html Is it worth the money? Does anyone have any info on porting and polishing? I probably wont do it to my truck but am always curious. How much power can be gained? Give me your 2cents and fyi.

Do a search on the web, or go to the library. There is plenty of free info out there on how to do it. I wouldn't tear my engine down just to do it, unless I was already in there for something else. But that's just me.

Im more curious then anything else. I was wanting to hear what the diy had to say about this. I figure 195k miles of carbon build up are giving me a fit.

Yea I'd say at 195K, port and polish probably isn't going to be top priority on any budget. When you rebuild it, then go ahead with port match and polish.

Anytime you can open it up and breath better, is not a bad thing. You are going to have to take the intake and heads off any way. So new head gasket, new intake gasket, new exhuast manifold gasket, and new valve cover gasket. Your already there and with 195K, atleast put in new rings and maybe have it decked too.
I just did my 5.0L in my boat a couple of weeks ago. But I was already in there for something else. I didn't/wouldn't spend $50+ in gaskets just to port match and polish especially on an engine with 195K.

But it turned out you didn't need to take the heads off anyways.

The rebuilt engine has 95k miles on it. And those miles where the easy under 2500 rpm miles. I dont believe they did anything to heads or intake other than clean the carbon off them. But cleaning the carbon build up on them at 95K would be atleast a 1% or 2 of better longetivity and power.
