Project Torino!

I figured I better log in as myself for this one.

Project Torino has officially begun.

For those who don't know my parent's gave me this car to pay off a debt to me (long story don't ask). My mombought it for my dad as a project car not realizing that my dad was too busy for a project car so he never touched it. It was kept in the garage (under a tarp) for several years. The guy she bought it from had it stored in a garage for several years. Low balled guess is that it has sat for 13 years. Its a 68 Torino GT with a 302. I would like to restore it to as original as possible (although hubby would like to drop his stock Lightning motor in it).

Last night I get just a good of stuff out of the interior. I still need to remove the back seat belts, driver side read armrest, all the interior panels, headliner & dash. The stuff I did get out came out reather easy, with the exception of 1 seat bolt that snapped off with the third twist. Tonight I cleaned up the floorboard & took pictures of everything.

Here's a slideshore of a few pics so you can get the basic idea of what I've gotten myself into.

Ah, perfect! A project. Those are the best kind. That way when someone asks you what's it got in it... you know, because you put it there, or at least you had it apart fixing it...

I love old iron...

Good luck, and keep us posted...

I want to do as much of the work as I can myself. Granted I don't have experience with body work but I have several close friends &/or family members who do. I am relatively proficient with an engine but I know this will be a challenge. The best part is when people ask me (a girl) who did the work & being able to say "I did."

Good luck working on the car. It looks like it will be an awesome car at the end of it... How long do you think it will take to finish the whole car???

I am scared to guess since I work full time, take 1-2 classes a semester, have 2 kids & only get the money after the bills & hubby's racing habit.

Unless it is "numbers matching", I'd bag the whole "original" idea. Go with a roller 5.0 motor out of an 88-93 Stang - complete with the Mass Air EFI and an AOD or a T-5. You could even rebuild the motor with a 331 c.i.d stroker kit, and call it a pushrod 5.4 motor

'68 Torinos are cool. You keep the exterior/interior fairly stock for the retro look; but give the old girl some "current" amenities.

Possibilities....

You've got yourself into a winner.
Looks like a great and fairly easy project car.
I've never done a Torino, so dont know how easy parts are to find, but would guess since the new re-release of the Starsky and Hutch movie, probably not to bad.

I dont know if you have the same problem there, but here the worst part about vehicles stored in garages under tarps are all the Mud Dobbers nests. They build in every loose or open line, vent or hole and plug it up.

Wow; you got some work ahead of you. Got a bit of Cancer there.
Have fun! I'm trying to get my 78 Trans Am on the road again by the end of the summer, but it'll still be FAR from finished.

Thats the basic idea but I would like to leave the engine as original (& by original I don't mean the exact parts that came with it from the dealer but to reporodctions of what it came with).

As far as parts a long time ago I got a catalog from Dearborn Classics. They have pretty much everything I would need. Matter of fact I just got their new catalog Monday.

So far I haven't found any bugs or other critters but I know its still early in the process.

Hubby wants to break out the powerwasher on it this weekend. Another good thing is that we have 2 media blastering companies within 2 miles from us. Hubby wants to take a trip to them in a couple weeks to get some prices.
