While the M16A4 is a formidable ground fighting weapon, testing is continuing as an airborne weapons platform. The .223 caliber round is very effective even from altitudes of 1000 feet or more; but the mounting and guidance system is still plagued with defects. Engineers are continuing to assess the problem.

And here we see the new "top secret weaponry" the Air Force has been testing. Said to be very effective because of the surprise factor. Apparently the enemy is so surprised by the man hanging below the wing that they just stand and stare, enabling the shooter to pluck them off like sitting ducks. Volunteers for the new position are slow in coming and the AF is considering special pay and other incentives to encourage recruits to participate.
