Warranty question...
Okay, probably a stupid question, but never really thought about it before...
Ford's 3 year/36k mile warranty is 3 years from the date of purchase?
I'm assuming so, which sucks because there are two things on Mom's Ranger that she should have taken it in for warranty work, but she bought it three years ago last month...
I'm only making an issue of this, because she's in Reno and I have her truck, and I want to get this fixed...
One is a wobbly driver's side mirror. Been that way since she bought it, but she says its not bad enough to bother with. The other is a water leak around the back window that I only discovered this morning. I'm guessing its coming in around the high mount taillight. I'll probably just see if I can get a new gasket for it.

Yes the Ford warranty is 3yr/36k from the date of purchase. Even if you buy your car with 300 miles on it, your warranty is through 36,000 miles, not 36,300. The dealer may have some after-warranty assistance policy, you never know. Good luck with that.
Sounds like two things a "good " son should be able to fix in a couple of hours time.
Actually, you can probably fix them yourself in less time you would spend messing with a dealer.

Ok, warranty clerk time! Thats me! I processed claims for 3 years. OK OK enough about me....lol!
The manufactures warranty is 3 years from the ORIGINAL sale date and at 36k miles....PERIOD. Unless you purchased an ESP. They do have assistance in cases where if you have had previous concerns/repairs and there is documentation showing them.
As for the mirror issue, if its just a tightening issue, that would have only been covered to 12 months 12k miles. Those are considered adjustments. Not covered after 12/12.
For the window seal, you are out of luck, because ESP's (if you have one) most times do not cover sealants. Check with your car insurance agent to see if he can recommend a glass guy that can do it fairly cheap. It may be something that you can just buy some clear sealant from the parts store and do yourself.

Again I'm not positive but I was pretty sure that if Ford grants you a 3/36 warranty that warranty doesn't start until the first sale is recorded.
**NOTE: I'm probably wrong and maybe Toyota is just better about that stuf*******
Thanks folks... That's what I figured.
I'll tear into it sometime this week. Gotta get the oil changed too. Probably start on that leak tonight. I "think" its the rear light, because the water was dripping down from the edge of the headliner, not rolling down the glass...

ERRRRRR!
I just pulled the light off. The gasket is incomplete on the bottom, and pulled away at the top. I can clearly see a trail where water has seeped in. Called Ford and they don't offer the gasket seperate. Gotta buy the $56 housing...
Gonna stop by Lowe's and see what kind of weatherstrip they've got, then call Mom. She may not want me to mess with it, and just buy the new housing...

Bumper to bumper is 3/36 only. If you buy a demo that has 3,000 miles on it, officially you get the remainder of the warranty, however many months/years and miles, in the case of a 3,000 mile old vehicle, it'd be 33,000 miles.
Your dealer may decide to offer you an AWA adjustment after your warranty has expired, though this is usually reserved for loyal customers (i.e., you get all your regular maintenance done at that dealer, you've bought a couple vehicles from them before, etc.) and for major repairs (engine blowed up, transmission repairs, etc). The dealer has this option up to 75,000 miles, and you're eligible for two repairs if they so choose to offer that option.

Well, I don't get any maintenance done there, but my family has bought 4 vehicles from them in the past 3 years. The last vehicle we got was a Dodge conversion van. It was used, but only had something like 200 miles on it. It sat on a lot somewhere for so long they took it and one other to auction... A few weeks after purchase one of the running boards that was installed wrong broke. The dealership kept saying they would take care of it (even though it was the conversion companies fault. They said mileage and age didn't matter, it was used and the warranty only applied to the original purchaser, which apparently was this dealership... ), but kept giving us the run around. more than a year later, still nothing...
So, I'll either fix it or see if she wants to buy a new one. And she's already said she doesn't want me to mess with the mirror...
