65 Ford 4x4

Howdy all,

I friend of mine in NM found a 65 ford pickup 4x4 that is rust free, body is straight, motor needs "going through". I don't know what motor is in it but I would guess a 352, 360, or 390 but I know it is hard to tell them apart for the novice. I am pretty unfamiliar to this era of truck. The guy wants 3K for it. It's really not the kind of truck I'm looking for but it sounds like it could be a really great project for me or someone else. What should I be looking for in this type of truck? Is this a fair price for that type and year of truck? I know it is really tough to nail such things down site unseen but any guidance would be helpful.

Thanks guys!

Back in 1994, a buddy of mine bought a 1970 Dodge 4x2 Shortbox pickup from Las Cruces, New Mexico. Low miles, straight as an arrow, and not a spec of rust. He paid 3k for it back then, so I would think the same price for a 4x4 Ford today is a pretty good bargain.....

That is a pretty low price for a 4x4 if the body is good. V8 would be a 352.

Get the VIN and check it here to see what you are dealing with.

Other than the 80-86, the 61-66 is my favorite ford truck style. I do like the 65 grill a bit better than the 66. You can look through my pics of the 66 to see what we started with, but dad has over 5K into it now before paint.

My sig says all you need to know about these beasts...
