Yeah... a bomb is much worse. A meltdown can be controlled. A several megaton bomb would be much larger than Hiroshima/Nagasaki. Sorry if you didn't research that story but the bombs used during WWII were measure in Kilotons (Thousands of tons TNT explosive force) were talking megatons (millions of tons). Unless you have a degree in nuclear physics, i think i'll take the scientists word over yours

You know I didn't mind your endless ranting on political subjects since much of that stuff is open to debate... however your complete lack of knowledge on nuclear weapons and the terrorist threat are more than I can stand.

The majority of Americans, even in a full-scale all-out nuclear war would survive the initial blast and thermal effects of nuclear explosions. Even with a large 1 MT explosion and being as few as 8-10 miles away from ground zero, you would likely find that you had survived the initial thermal, blast and shock wave.

They could nuke downtown Detroit and I wouldn't even have to get my fat **** up off the couch to run for shelter. As for the fallout it will depend on which way the wind is blowing that day but odds are the poor bastards in Canada would get the brunt of it.

It doesn't take a degree in nuclear physics to understand the amazingly simple concepts of how a bomb works and its effects. It just takes some common sense and research into the matter.

If you have any buddies in the other armed forces ask them about it, not some liberal hippy PhD that wants save the planet and promote love, not war.

You're an A-hole. There is a value on human life whether it is the drug pusher down the street or a priest. It's all the same. We all have the ability to become better people and salvation is for everyone. God will judge us all and I pray he forgives you for wishing suffering on other human beings. You are obviously not an intellectual as you speak very untintelligently and call people "dude." You're weakminded and slow. I think pathetic is a good word.

Yeah, what's your point?

At least I'm smert enuff to know how a nucliear bom wurks.

I corrected my armed forces statement to read 'other'. I figured the Air Force guys didn't get the cool government issued video on nuclear bombs. Talk to the boys in the army that got sent to the middle east for the first Gulf war... they were paranoid about nukes then, now bio-this and that are all the rage...

First of all, who do you think nuclear control falls under...Air Force.

I'm really not gonna debate someone who says "dude" and probably has never been in the Military. You don't know a whole lot and that is obvious. You don't like my posts, don't read them. You have no clue what your talking about. Go back to your can of pringles and by the way...it wasn't from a liberal scientist...it was from the Russian scientists that helped develop those nukes in question. Obviously you don't read too well

I've been to NOLA many times, and while I don't wish anyone an untimely demise, a nuclear explosion in New Orleans would probably actually IMPROVE the situation there. What an absolute he11-hole of a city.....

Actually you shouldn't debate me since your losing miserably and will continue to with rediculous statements like your opening line. If you seriously think nuclear control falls under the ASAF you could be the dummest airman I know. The DoD and DoE are the folks in charge of the nuclear program for the most part, with those clowns over at the ACDA have some hands in the whole arsenal of goodies.

Wake up and smell the fission dude! Oh wait, I can't say 'dude' since it makes me a have no clue. Man, I should have enlisted in the military I'd be smert and know all about tham new fandagled nukes!!!

What the heck is ASAF? Oh, you mean USAF?
Yes, they fall under the U.S. Space Command...Which is part of the U.S. Air Force. Just like NORAD. Look it up.

Dzervit, stop... He's correct. It falls under Space Command and NORAD. I was on a ballistic missile sub. I know who controls them.

Ever heard of DTRA? Visit their site and you can learn a lot. I know more than I want to about special weapons( I'm not allowed to tell you my credentials), and let me tell you, you do not want one used on American soil, not if you have a soul. The ones used in Japan were small, in the 300-400 Kt range. A small backpack nuke these days can make Katrina look like a highschool football game that got a little out of control. For starters, not very many people understand much about these weapons, so panic would be wide spread. Chaos would very likely ensue (think LA Riots x 100). A state of national emergency would be declared (never been done before) and martial law would be enacted. The National Guard would be deployed as police, and have the right to use Deadly Force on Americans. It's not a pretty picture anyway you paint it.

While I also think that areas like downtown Detroit and NOLA need to be cleansed of the filth that they've accumulated, a nuke is not the answer. Tougher laws, enforced death penalty (public) and things along those lines would be much more effective.

BBQMAN:

Long time no hear, amigo.
Remember the good old days, (1999-2000) when all we talked about was Lightning trucks and such.

Hijacking a thread here, but what rides do you and son have today??

Pat now has an 05 Navigator with all the bells and whistles and I dropped off my Blackwood a year ago when the lease ran out and am now running my inherited 1992 Town Car which I have rebuilt from the ground up. 62,000 miles on an original California little old ladies car and as said, I have spent probably 4 times the current retail value getting it in absolute top shape.

I am not sure to say if it is sad or good, but I enjoy the luxury and the marshmellow ride, no noisy exhaust and silky smooth shifts.

Damn, man, being 66 years old sure changes your perspective.

Oh yes. Your city is getting a bad rap in many respects and I think you have to ignore the nuke references as internet hip-hop.

On the other hand, there were some major problems that your mayor and your governor could not handle, in the same way that the Feds could not handle their part. Still, does not justify nuking your home town.
Bill

hi Bill, it's been a while. don't post much, as the humor and comraderie that brought me here last century are few and far. i still enjoy my Lightnings, my son is still trying to destroy the 99 and no luck so far. i still have the Monster Dodge, and i'm going to pick up a 06 King Ranch Expy this weekend. they are knocking 16k off the price! i should be able to grab that with my leftover FEMA money. the city has always had a bad rap, but somebody keeps sending us SuperBowls, Final Fours, All-Stars etc. the movie industry and the "beautiful people" in those movies and music, all seem to have a spare home here. some people don't know, that the locals put up their share of the money to have the levee system built properly by the Corps of Engineers, and while i guess they did their best at the time, the levees broke, they were not topped. the Feds will keep spending your billions to straighten this mess out, every time it happens, because their share of the oil and gas revenue from the anus of America is in the trillions, or something

Thanks for the video link, MrBBQMAN. Prayers are out for you folks. I have family in Lake Charles and the Gulf Coast area of Texas. Pretty nasty situation, but you folks are some tough Cajuns and I'm sure you'll pull through just fine.

God bless.
