Any of you use credit monitoring services?

I have been considering getting some sort of credit/identity monitoring service because of the rampant amount of identity theft that is occuring. I just logged on to CNN and there is a headline about how some dumbazz took home the personal information of 26 million veterans (me) including date of birth and social security numbers. This of course is gold to the right people, and I'm more than concerned.

Anyway, do any of you use these services? How much do you pay? Pros/cons?

Thanks!

Id be careful with them. Some are just as bad as the thieves. $10/month for something I didnt sign up for and it was a pain to get rid of them.

CIC Credit Monitoring.

Equifax gold monitoring, complain about the price and they lower it to like $4.95 a month and you get unlimited credit reports plus alerts to any changes. You can run your report everyday for no charge.

you are better off checking the bills when they come in the mail. check your credit report at least once a year and it you are still worried, you can contact the credit report agencies and have a freeze put on your SSN. if a new account is opened or any changes are made they will block it until they get conformation from you. I'm not sure if they charge for this.

i too am affected by this but i wont lose any sleep over it.

I've got one of those subscriptions for the Experian thing, Freecreditreport.com. I have not noticed any problems, and I think 12.95 a month is a small price to pay for being able top stay on top of your credit score. Sure, there's horror stories too, but everyone has those.

I use the equifax service. They email me whenever there is a change to my report, or someone runs a check, an account is opened etc.

I just pay it and forget about it, I think it is worth it.

I use the Scorewatch at myfico.com.

You can also get a free copy of your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com. You have to pay more if you want to see your FICO score, but you can see all of your accounts and your credit history for free from the 3 credit reporting agencies. If you will do one of those every 4 months, you can keep pretty much on top of your credit without paying a dime.
