installed new motherboard, have a question

Someone just barely installed a new motherboard on my computer because it was acting weird. everything works fine now, but when i boot it up it goes to a black screen and says "press f1 to continue or press f12 to enter setup utility".

how do i make it not do that? it never did that before.

I love POS techs who replace motherboards anytime something goes wrong.
My guess is there is a setting within the setup utility. Is this the BIOS software?

Is that all it says? Usually it's because it's looking for something that isn't attached and you need to shut off what it's looking for in the bios, but without more info I couldn't tell you what it is. You can try going into "setup", the bios, and then just hiting F10 and "yes" and that might stop it from doing that. Worth a try.

If you know what the brand and model is of the motherboard then that might help. Can find a forum somewhere that discusses the motherboard and see if anyone else has had the same problem. If it's a name brand machine then you'll need to talk to them or the tech that worked on it about the problem.

the problem was that it would sometimes not boot up. it would just sit there and the power button would flash yellow. so they first came out and replaced a power supply, that didnt work so they came and replaced the input output panel. and that didnt work so they just replaced the motherboard last night. it seems to be working, but i have to press f1 everytime it boots up.

Its probably a bios setting. What is the input output panel? If that the switch you are talking about that is unbelievable that they actually replaced that. LoL

the input output panel is up front near the switch, theres a couple usb inputs and a headphone jack, and i believe the switch is part of it also.

They don't TEST anything any more, just replace and hope it does the trick. The motherboard may have been the problem. Might also be memory or CPU related. They might have replaced the cpu when they did the motherboard. That would kill two birds with one stone. Who knows, the memory might have been included in that also.

Yea I know right!
Do they miss Trouble Shooting 101 class or what?

With out knowing what brand of MB or which bios chip set, no one will beable to give you a step by step.

Most likely in the bios settings there is an option for diagnostic boot yes/no, put it on no.

they replaced only the motherboard, they took the cpu and memory out of the old one. i watched them do it.

how do i get into the bios settings and change it from diagnostic boot to no?

i may just have to call up Pakistan again and TRY and talk to dell support. "thank you come again"

To enter bios settings, Hit F12 to enter setup utility.
Should be in there.

Yea that makes a difference, you'll hit F2 then....
I thought F12 sounded odd, but you never know with all of these different bios chips, each one is different.

F12 is usually to boot to a network otherwise known as PXE booting. If you're only getting those options (f12, f1, f2) it sounds like it can't find anything to boot from. Did they hook all your IDE cables to your new motherboard and your hard drives. Like everyone else said, check your set up and see what your boot sequence is also... floppy, then CD ROM, then hard drive... somethin like that.
