Like everyone else said, check your set up and see what your boot sequence is also... floppy, then CD ROM, then hard drive... somethin like that.
yes it only has options f1 to continue or f2 for setup utility. if i pres f1, then it boots up like normal and everything works fine. its just annoying to have to press f1 everytime i turn it on.

I think that Dell has some kind of system monitoring program and this could be why you are having to push F1 to load your OS. Before you get prompted to press F1 or F2, does it do a count of how much RAM (memory) your PC has? If so, there should also be a setting in your BIOS where you can disable that count and just boot your PC to your OS. As far has having a floppy in your boot sequence and not having a floppy, sure, you can disable that but it shouldn't really slow your boot process all that much if you leave it enabled. Your PC will only briefly look to boot from your floppy and CD ROM.

That might be what's causing it to hang. If you can take it out and see if there's an option to disable it, that might cure your problem.

Sorry man, without having a Dell right here in front of me I couldn't tell you. I used to work on them all the time, but that was years ago.
