Gas useage while idling?

Anyone have any idea how much gas our trucks use while idling? I bring this up because I was sittin in the a/c in my truck on my brake at work and a co-worker runs up to me all worried that Im gonna waste all my gas. He turns my truck off, I gave him a good pop in the back of the head and told him never to touch my truck, especially the ignition. Anyways, anyone know? (it's a 4.6L v8 if it makes a huge difference). Thanks

I'll ask tommrow at work, we leave the cruisers running for 8 hours a day on the side of road construction sites.

After Katrina left me with no power...I slept in my 05' FX4 with the A/C on for about 8 hours. Burned about an 1/8 of a tank.

They say that starting the truck is the equivalent of letting it idle for 10 seconds. If that helps any...

I have a scanguage and can check the fuel flow per hour. I think it's about .5 gph. some have posted on other sites.

Just checked at idle, not warmed up and it dropped to .5 gph pretty quick. It will drop to .4 gph when warmed up good.
