BTW congrats on the 12yo scoring so well.
I wont disagree with you.
There is definatly positives and negatives to each.
This is one of the positives, a result of the OOI and IP. (One on One Interaction and Individule Pacing.)
If you have time to invest to be involved in enough of the extracuricular activites then most of the negatives to home school are gone. With internet forums and chat alot have been eliminated anyway.
I had an essay wrote but I wont post it.....
Yes I have kids and they have been home schooled, private schooled and public schooled. We have not made any decision lightly, I know the pros and cons to all first hand. Our game plan is diversity, with an emphasis in moral, social behavior and interaction. Then competetive drive, self esteem and last is education. Unless education falls to standard or below, then we'll push education up more. But as long as they are being challenged, and learning, then I don't pressure them for acedemic achievenments. I'm more interested and proud of thier charecters and achievements in the community. Although right now they are both holding A/B's easily, so is nothing that we've had to worry about yet.
My only real concern with straight home school is the adult sucide rate of Home educated individules.
They had/have a much higher rate of sucessful entrepenuers as a result of thier suppresion.
The sucide rate is blamed on thier "former" 3rd class citizen status to employers combined with thier lack of social skills. 10 years ago their status was below a HS drop out. Which forced them into entrepenuership. Unfortunalty succesful and happy don't always go hand in hand. So sucide was higher as well.
I hope to see that change and numbers drop as the social status continues to shift, and with the introduction of internet communication improving social interaction skills.
OK OK I'll stop.....

Welcome to F150 Online! The only site on the internet that GUARANTEES to find a negative in EVERY topic!
Anyway, congratulations...that is absolutely amazing. I never took the ACT (I took the SAT), but I do know that is a FANTASTIC score for someone about to graduate high school, let alone a pre-teen! Bust out the champagne, I think that calls for some serious celebration!

Many congratulations on her great scores and the job you have done . And I, for one, would be one of those folks to run to the top of the mountain and let the world know just what she had accomplished at such a young age....so be proud and keep doin' what your doin'....
Ok, everyone is right!!!!
Imagine that...
According to ACT website. there are two scores depending on which test you take.
http://www.act.org/aap/writing/sample/rubric.html
The First is the standard mutliple choice test with a top score of 30
There is an optional writing test required for some schools and if you take that then top score becomes 36.
So now everyone can rest easy because each of you are right.

You're right about the negative thing. I expected it. I'd like PSS to go to his local McDonalds, and write an essay on the socialization skills of the kid behind the counter, and then tell me I should worry about both my kids' ability to carry on an intellectual conversation with any adult, while at the same time being able to play with other kids without feeling the need to belittle them with name calling or selfishness.
Oh, and by the way, Stanford actively recruits homeschoolers because of the fact that they are not peer dependent (resistant to peer pressure) and they have much better study skills than public schooled students.
AAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
That's all I'm saying. I don't know why I even bother.
But thanks again to all others. My daughter is sitting behind me smiling at most posts, and shaking her head to the couple sour grapes. She wants a Bronco too when she starts driving, so I could see her posting here before long.
(I know there are no Bronco forums here, but close enough to an F150.)I'm gone for awhile, so if someone wants to open a new thread on homeschooling, I'll debate them there when I get back.
bye bye

There is absolutely nothing you can do and get 100% positives. NOTHING.. any decision is going to have it's negatives. The decision is based on whether the positives out weigh the negatives.... The OOI and IP are two major positives that weigh heavily. There are alot more positives and alot more negatives that could be mentioned. To list them I'd need a book because I'd have to compare to all forms of eductation.
I never once said it was a bad decision or that they would or wouldn't come out better or worse..... That is you own negative assumptions based on insecurity of your decision. As matter of fact I said that Home School Student have a higher chance of being successful entrepanuers..... I guess you failed to read tha tor where my kids have been home schooled too....

We didn't switch because it was bad..... there were other factors involved.
But I'm like you. Why bother? When all that you are wanting to see is negatives and for some unkown reason to me, just want to assume that I'm against you...

Being smart is nice, especially when they PAY YOU to go to school.

You can't beat getting paid to go to school! I'm proud of her, she makes me wish I'd done better. I was Magna *** Laude, but she's Summa *** Laude; she was paid to go to school, I paid to go to school (And still pay)...
I guess it pays to be smart!!

Yea I definatly didnt mean to upset you... I'm sorry, that defiantly wasn't my goal. I'm celebrating with you.
I just love talking about this stuff and learning more thru first hand discusion. Nothing beats on hand observations.
Even though we don't do home school currently, the school they do attend is a home school based christian private school. It's a 1 -4 student/teacher ratio in every class. They use the Alpha Omega curriculum which is the same that we used when we were home schooling. So we liked that.
