I saw the first one last night for the first time. It was a little shocking and disturbing. Not sure if something like that should be aired.

No, I'm not. Kids see that and it could scare the crap out of them. May never want to get in a car again.

actually that is a great thing. People feel too invincible in cars. My boy is only 7 but I'm 9 years from one of my greatest fears...him in a drivers seat. If I could scare the beejezus out of him great.

Well I agree that teenagers or pre teens even, should be aware of it. But try explaining that to a 4, 5 or 6 year old.

I could not see the video as I am blocked from downloading the player, but I assume from the coments, it was an accident. The risk of kids and thir driving is what promted me to build the car I did for my daughter. Her Sr year in high school, all the other kids had Mazdas, Nissans, Toyotas etc., she had a 1965 Galaxy 2 door hardtop, pleated and rolled interior, dropped 2 inches in the front, American mags, 390 4 barrell with duals, painted IROC blue. She never had a accident, but if she had, she was well protected. There was more metal in the drivers door of that car than in any of those rice burners. Needless to say, she had one of the "coolest" cars at school. for her graduation, i traderd her a restored 1966 yellow Mustang GT Fastback. I kept the Galaxy for 2 more years, then like an idiot, sold it. Wish I had it back.

I would happily explain it to my 4 year old if and when he sees the commercial, as I have been explaining vehicle and driving safety to him for as long as he has cared to listen. Riding in a car is very different today from when I was my Son's age. I remember climbing from the front seat to the back seat and riding in the tailgate of our station wagon. Seat belts? Not that I recall. Maybe lap belts as I got older, and only when Connecticut mandated their use. Today, my Son is secured in a car seat and will be, by law in GA, until he is six years old. I think that is a good thing. Not wearing a seat belt is something that he will ever know or question. He watches NASCAR and asks about the helmets and other gear (I stopped short of explaining the HANS device)...and reminds us that we need to put our helments on when we go to school. He also noticed when we were in Florida last week that hardly anyone riding a motorcycle was wearing a helmet. He is aware of everyone in Georgia wearing them. In his inimitable four year old fashion, he kept asking "why." He won't even let me start the car until my seat belt is on. Too young for him to see a commercial like this? Maybe it's inappropriate to run them on Nickelodeon during Sponge Bob, but if he does see it while we are watching primetime and he inquires, I will gladly explain it to him.

They were going to discuss this very thing on the Today show this morning but I didn't see it. I've been seeing the second commercial on air for a few weeks now.

I agree that safety precautions should be explained to children of all ages. That was not what I was trying to say. When I saw the ad, it actually shocked me a little. Just wouldn't want a little one to see it.
