SVT Division Cancelled

This weekend past I saw a story saying Ford has wiped out it's SVT division. the commentator stated Ford is refusing comment on this but he catagorically stated the division has been shut down. He went on to say Ford will concentrate all it's efforts to economy vehicles. He added this is a huge gamble by Ford. I just wonder if this is a fact does that means they have dropped out out the hi performance vehicles including the Mustang. Has anyone heard anything similar to this story?

Really? I thought that was to be the "heir apparent" to the Taurus, or am I wrong in what I remember hearing? I see tons of 500s and Fusions around, I can't imagine the 500 being that bad of a seller. But, stranger things have happened. Could they be pulling it off the market for a bit, only to reintroduce it later, when more engine options available, or maybe even a hybrid?

It's sellign well, according to the dealers I've spoken too.

I think Ford expected it to tbe the heir apparent to the Crown Victoria, but, um, uhh-uhh...

I think a mild freshening, a more aggressive package, and a 260 HP 4.6L V8 is all the Five hundred needs.

Too bad Ford won't hire me; if they'd listen, I believe I could help them, at least with regard to knowing what the consumer wants; limiting money expended on BS (Sport-trac), and poor decision making (SuperCab Harley Davidson F-150, rather than the SuperCrew; the front grill on the Navigator, taking the Ford GT that far into the price range, Lincoln Aviator, slow disbursement of the V-8 Mustang, death of the LS (should have been redesinged 2-3 years ago), malnourished V-8 in the town car, Lincoln Mark LT, I hate to say it, but- keeping Mercury alive, no hot Jags on the street, no crew-cab Ranger (Instead of that BS Sport Trac)... I could go on and on, but, you get the idea...

I agree that the sport trac is a waste of time and resources. I disagree about your opinion on the new harley f150 and no crew cab ranger. I'm personally very happy that the Harley is not a crew cab. I hate a super crew. The look out of proportion, the cab is longer than the bed of the truck, bed too short to be useful for anything, and just plain Look silly IMO. There is probably a reason for the lack of a crew cab ranger...........look how bad Chevy's crew cab S-10 failed

I understand what you're saying, but if you need a truck to work, then the HD would not be a good option (In SuperCrew mode). It's a specialty vehicle. I like extended cab, flare-sided trucks (which the new harley is not- doggone fleet side), and they sold well when it was thought that the HD would only be available as a SuperCab. However, when the SuperCrew came out, they sold like hot cakes. Today, I see 10 previous generation SuperCrew HD's for every 1 SuperCab I see. I live in Texas, Truck capital of America, and I have yet to see a single current-gen Harley Davidson F-150 anywhere, (Except at the auto show). This is why I think it was a mistake to come with the supercab first. People are waiting for the SuperCrew to come out...

They Chevy Crew cab small truck failed to sell because, well, it's ugly...
They aren't sellign many of the regular cabs either...

Actually, it really amazes me how the US automotive companies operate sometimes. Things that seem so simple to the consumer (importing a bland Aussie car and naming it after an American icon is not a good idea, making enough V8 Mustangs, don't build the Aztec -- it's ugly, etc....) always seem to be a revelation to the "suits" that run these places.

Ford is focusing on economy cars? Tell me what major US manufacturer is doing very well these days and then tell me if they're focusing their energies on the "heir apparent" to the Neon....?

Hmmmm.......

I'm talking about the s-10's not the colorado's. The colorado is just ugly all the way around.

As far as the new harley trucks there is a couple floating around here. The gen1 harley trucks were only offered for what......1 year maybe 2. When the harley trucks when they first came out were only available in supercab form and was nothing special about it except cosmetics. When the Supercrew version came out is when they started being equipped with the lightning drivetrain and is when they actually started selling. Yes they were quick and they did look good but it became a running joke................What can't you do with your Harly F150? Haul your Harley in the back of it. Like I said......the supercrew bed is just to short to be useful. Supercrews just look STUPID

Your entitled to your opinion but stupid come on...

I've never had a problem hauling anything I needed in my Screw with a 5.5 bed and that includes 8x4 sheet rock and 5 passengers.

How useful are the suicide doors on a scab?

Trucks with caps? Why not just buy an SUV....

See what I mean...anything can be "Stupid"...my screw has handled everything I've needed and wouldnt trade it for anything

Well if it was up to me I wouldn't have put a cap on that truck.........but thats the way I inherited it so......... I'll probably end up taking it off for the summer anyway. I won't get rid of it cause its nice to have. I also wouldn't have bought a short bed truck like mine. give me an 8 foot bed. My mother wanted an 8 foot bed truck when she got this one but the wait at the time was too long to order one. Good luck finding one around here though. The suicide doors are very useful I"ve had 5 people in that truck plenty of times all seated comfortably. The super crews look STUPID cause they are so out of proportion with the bed being so short.
