Done with Norton, now I need suggestions

I dumped Norton Antivirus, crashed my computer I'm pretty positive. Now I'm running without any antivirus program and need some suggestions on any others that will do the job without all the problems Norton has given me. Computer is now running great once I finnaly dumped norton, wheeeeh that was scary experience. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Same thing happened to me when I tried to upgrade it (Norton). For now I still have Norton, but I'm looking for a new one too. There were some suggestions earlier somewhere. Heard Mc Afee is good.

From: ???.....depends on the day
I do not have an anti-virus installed on my laptop.....never have.....I have not had a virus in the 4 years that I have had it........as long as you stay away from questionable sites and are smart about attachements....you will be fine.....

...there are plenty of online scanners you can do for free if you want to feel "safe"......but norton is crap.....mcafee is crappier.....pandasoftware makes a version that is not too bad.....

Comiing from a Network Security Vulnerability Tech, I would recommend Avast. One of the best out there plus it's free for the home addition. I have been running it for about 2 1/2 years with no problems and I do a lot of file sharing.

I had the same problem with Norton. I switched to Trend Micro's P C Cillian and have had no problems at all. It upgrades about every 3 or 4 hours and sends me a report every Friday on the latest viruses out there and what to watch for in E-Mails. I wouldn't have anything else.

They all seem to have there problems. The one I have had the least problem with so far is Norton. I have heard of problems with Trend Micro and some other software, I think Roxio Easy Media Creator. There was a patch put out by Trend for that. I have had a lot of problems with McAfee, the reason I am now using Norton. Can't say I have heard anything about Avast or e-Trust, although I believe e-Trust is made by the same company as McAfee, Computer Associates.

Trend Micro Inc. PC-cillin for many years. Cheaper than Norton, better than MOST. Never had a problem.

Thanks a bunch folks, I'm giving Avast a try right now. Gona be a learning curve figureing it out. But I can say one thing, my computer shuts down and starts up much faster now that I got rid of Norton, what a hog. Thanks again.

So it seems like Avast, eTrust or Trend Micro are the best. Now to choose between the three.

Check with your ISP's homepage and see if they are offering one for free! Most are these days. Or just give them a buzz or email and ask. Free always help with decision making
