Where are all the manuals ?
Where are all the manuals ?
I kind of went truck shopping tonight, and to my dismay, after looking at 50 or more trucks, I've come to the conclusion that manufacturers do not make a half ton pick up with a manual transmission. Why ?

Simplicity, people these days cant drive, clutch and shift at the same time. But yet they can do all the unusuall things and still drive.
My opinion people can't move a lever 12 inches, they need a button to shift the vehicle.
In other words people are getting lazy.

Howdy fellow handshaker lover.
It was hard enough back in '97 when dad got the F150. Had to special order it to get the M5OD 4.6L 4x4 loaded XLT.

I remember how it was the first 97 to show up at the dealer, all these people wanted to test drive it and all but one or two could actually work a clutch.

The main reason you don’t see many manual trucks is because of payload and tow ratings. You can carry and/or tow much more with an automatic then a manual. The weakest link in a manual for hauling and towing is the clutch…
Take two identical prepared trucks one with an automatic and one with a manual and the automatic will be able to out haul and out tow the manual…

You also get this wonderful thing called torque multiplication with an automatic and a torque converter, and a lot of it.
I like manual transmissions in cars, but in a truck, I'll take a slushbox, please.

There is so much more to a stick vs auto. You can pick and choose a gear, you can do things with a handshaker that just can't be done with a automatic. I pulled out a 2005 suburban in low lock the other day and it did not seem to care if it was an auto or manual it just idled it out no problem at all. It just feels better driving a stick vs a boring auto. I can get rubber in 3 gears try that with any auto....
out haul out tow who really cares. How many folks are hauling or towing something that heavy and if they are they will most likely be in a F-250 or up.
I can haul *** with my handshaker
