....new to me.

Its a '97 Baja 180 Islander with a 5.7L Mercruiser. I am guessing it will do 60mph or so but i need to gps it since the speedo jumps so much.

i really want this to pull behind it

Nice!

You should get close to 60mph.

I need to GPS mine, I dont have a speedo at all. Just kind of guess by the tach. Installed a pick up tube last year when I had the engine out, but caped it off. Probably wont add a water speedo. I want a Garmin GPS, then I'd just carry it on the boat with me.

So how long is that one?

SWEET....Nice boat man

Its gonna be a lot of fun this summer. That flying tube looks insane, I think I might get one myself. I mean what the heck, I almost got killed on a regualr tube, may as well give this a shot.

If you need any help with the boat let me know. I'll do my best. Now you can join in the hijackings that PSS-MAG, Trytokeepup and myself perform in about 1 out of every 4 threads we post in..

Matt...since its modeled a 180, the boat is considered to be an 18'er. It may measure 18' 6" overall, but for me, if I were to bill work to that boat per foot, I would bill at 18'

Ok, this really sucks now, I need a bigger boat

Boat speedometers read about 5 to 10MPH higher than actual. Water currentg also has an effectg on speed with the speedo. GPS is the only way to go. When I ordered my boat I ordered it without a speedo for this reason.

I read the post and yet did not catch where it said 180. lol

You are correct if it's a 180 then it's 18', with 0 fishing seats.

BTW:
Brew you've got mail.

Ya, I can't wait for the warm weather to hit. All of my friends want me to get the flying tube but no one seems to want to chip in for it. I did just buy an 11' party island for the GF to lounge on.

BREWDUDE-
I will probably have some questions for you since this is the first I/O I've owned. I already broke off the water drain plug for the cooling system, so I gotta find a way to get that out to replace it. It's supposed to get below freezing tonight and tomorrow night so I drained the water out of the block and exhaust and when I was putting the plug back in (of course the hardest one to get to by the bottom of the motor) my massive man arms applied too much torque and broke the head off.

Yea thats why I will probably never go ahead and get a gauge for it. But now it is ran incase somebody else wants to in the future. I've ran along beside others with GPS and calculate around 10 mph for every 1000 rpm +/- (Depending on current). Since I'm on lakes I never lose sight of land so I can always look over and guestimate my land speed if I am unsure of the current..

Yea I dont know whay they do that, you'd think it'd be a given, but I guess if someone had a 182 sitting next to a 180 that was labeled simply 18. Same boat only 182 has 2 fishing seats. Then it would make the 182 seem alot bigger so they add the 0 for no fishing seats.

Did I say plastic?? I meant cold Blue steel

If is broken to where you can see a whole thru it, you may get lucky with tapping an easy out into it and backing it out that way.

If that doesnt work, try this..

Get a big flathead screwdriver. A little larger than the thread size of the plug. Heat the tip of the screwdriver with a torch until its smokin hot, then stick it into the broken off plug as far as you can get it in and let it sit to cool. This will pretty much burn a slot in the plug that you can now just turn the screwdriver and unscrew the plug.
