Thumbs down

Don't sweat it too much, LT.

Probably just the internet version of any other jerk you meet in your day-to-day life! If you do find out who it is I would say they should be banned from the site -- we don't need clowns like that around here! I understand that we all give each other a lot of crap back-and-forth, but that just crosses the line.....

Thanks DD. I couldn't agree more.

BTW...I tried checking another site for the ISP address and it said it came from an Apple computer. Could it be narrowed down to that?

OK...I have another question to what Steve brought up. If this "person" was trying to sign on as me, that means that they were on the forums as a guest. So if they didn't post anything at all last night, would there still be a way to track them?

The only way to really know "who" it is if the IP matched a known user to the site. Anonymous guests will have IP's logged but you're still at the same place. Only the ISP of the related IP can say who the person is from that point and that's not counting IP spoofing and proxies.

All you have to do is logout and log in as a different name.

Seriously, If you sent the IP address to the Admin this problem (mystery) should have been solved within seconds. Dont know why they have not responded yet?

If it was an anonymous guest, then getting their ISP to name a customer or release any customer info based on their IP is like pulling teeth. You'd have to go to court and get a judge to grant a court order, blah, blah, blah.
So if it doesn't match a member then it's simply not worth messing with.

This is not a secure site, that software is expensive and an extra headache to maintain. We don't do transactions on here so it does not need to be secured. Your password did it's job. Just don't keep anything here that you wouldn't hand a complete stranger on the street.

Did it actually say Apple?
Or did it say Mac Address?
Mac address is not an Apple.
The MAC Address represents the physical address of a network device. Every computer, printer, scanner, router, switch or any other device on a private network has a Mac Address.

What site was that?
If it turns out to be true, then that's pretty slick.
Extremely Scary, but slick.

I'll run my IP thru it from work monday and see if it can tell me what I have. If so then time to start locking down some more.

I saw it on two different sites. The last one was VisualRoute/TraceRoute. It's also saying Cupertino, CA. Thanks Pss.

Let's see...

Apple + California = Kobi...

But then I checked Cupertino, CA on the map and that is the Bay area. Kobi is in the LA area.
