And in response to your little itty bitty state comment.......
"You got a problem with that?" (think Sopranos)
You think Newark is bad??? Try Camden... 3 years running "Most Dangerous City" in the USA.
Quite any achievement considering Camden is 1/5 the size of Detroit & from what I understand, Detroit is like the US's version of Baghdad.
Since you're stuck in Newark, check this place out: http://www.iberiarestaurants.com/ Some of the best food I've ever eaten
& I travel the world for a living. Make sure you get the dish called Rodizio, it's basically an all you can eat where they bring different grilled meats by the table.
As much as I hate NJ, don't base your opinion of it based on Newark.
Interestingly enough, the closest I've ever experienced to hell on earth was an elevator in the Hyatt hotel on the island of Guam on prom night. We were finishing a 21 hour duty day & the whole crew was heading to the 8th floor to get into our rooms. Aside from 5 of us aircrew types, there was 12 fat, local teenage girls in prom dresses. The elevator stopped halway between the 4th & 5th floor & got stuck there for 2.5 hours. I was ready to start cutting throats. Those fat girls did not shut up for 1 second for the ENTIRE 2.5 hours. If they would have been cute & nice that would have been different. The were all 200lbs+ & stunk like cheap perfume. The wasn't even enough room to sit down. Hell to be sure...

Man.. you guys sell out Northern NJ so fast!!!
Where do you think they collect all the tolls on the GSP to pay for your end of it?
I'll have to run a sightseeing tour up here sometime....(I'm in Montclair - about 6 miles northwest of Newark). Houses with views of the entire NYC skyline, etc. There really are some beautiful towns around the area.... (yes, it's a bit crowded but that's what you get when you live within the shadow of NYC.. or any other world-class city)
Anwyays... for food in Newark, go to the Ironbound section - KC posted one of the bigger ones Iberia but there's also Fornos, Don Pepe and a number of others.... check out this link: http://www.gonewark.com/atPlay/Dining/Dining.asp
If you do go to a Portugese-Spanish place, get the seafood paella and a pitcher of sangria.... you'll be loving life...

The only person I know from Guam is a teacher friend that my wife works with and let's just say she is an "island hottie" -- I had this vision at first of you being stuck in an elevator with a dozen Atoinette's, but I guess that wasn't to be your fate that night!

For those who don't know anything about Guam... Guam is basically Burlington County, NJ on a tropical island. One township is all ritzy, Tumon Bay (Mt Laurel & Moorestown), one has the military base, Yigo (Wrightstown), a few are low rent & low income (Willingboro & Browns Mills) the rest is all middle of the road (like Mt Holly, Eastampton, etc) Spend any time in either locale, Burlington County or Guam and you will see the similarities in like 2 weeks. I lived on Guam for 2 years & since retraining, I flown thru about 10 times.

Just so you Jersey folks don't think I'm taking unfair pot-shots at your fair state, I got to drive the GSP from I-278 in the south straight up to the NYS line. I will have to say that that area looked much more "livable" than what I saw on my first day in the Garden State!
And actually, the rest of my trip north into NYS (I traveled I-87 north, then took Hwy. 17 west into Wallkill) was actually quite beautiful! It was amazing to be only 25 or 30 miles outside of NYC and have nothing to look at but forested countryside in either direction!
