The DaVinci Code

Anyone read it?

I read it a few months ago as well as Angels and Demons. I am Catholic and caught a lot of grief because I enjoyed both of them. Of course, I read them purely as entertainment, not as a history reference.

I just heard tonight that The DaVinci Code the movie is coming out in May, and I'll be danged if Tom Hanks isn't in it.

Personally, I can't wait.

Any other fans?

I haven't read either one yet, but plan to soon. I'm also Catholic, and enjoy those type novels. I will definitely see the movie... Have you ever seen 'Stigmata'?

Both are good reads. Some will tell you to read Angels and Demons first. I didn't. They share some of the same characters, but it makes no difference which you read first.

I never saw Stigmata. Was that the one with Brad Pitt?

I'm not sure of the actors, but Pitt was not one of them. I highly recommend that movie. It was excellent, IMHO. Go out and rent it now!!!!

Discovery channel or History channel (I think), has a program called The DaVinci Code. It's rather interesting. I dont agree with the teachings such as implying that Mary Magnoline (sp?) was Jesus's wife or lover. Can't remember if they said wife or not. Ignoring a few things as historical fact then it was interestingly entertaining!

Have not read either book, I will wait for the movie first. Cinema always leaves stuff out to fit film time frame. If I read it first then I won't beable to enjoy the movie.

If it's like the Discovery channel or History channel (which ever) program. Then it is about a conspiracy theory that DaVinci put codes in his paintings about the where abouts of some religious lost scrolls.

If you're a reader at all, check them out. Give it 60 or 70 pages to get going. You won't be disappointed with either.

I read the book just after Christmas this year. I started it one night, and ended up reading for 4 hours. Once I started, i just couldn't put it down. It's a very fast paced book. I can't wait for the movie. It's one of the most entertaining books i've ever read. plus it makes you think.

I read both books rihght after they came out. I am an avid reader and I enjoyed them. I read them as entertainment but they sure made you stop and think about a lot of things. If you look at history and some of the things that went on in the name of religeon in the early centuries, it is not too hard to believe that some of it might be true. I too look forward to the movie.

If you guys like reading, have any of you read the "Left Behind series"?
Not as fast paced or ruthless as the davinci Code. Yet pretty good.
The davinci code is fun to look up on google and look up errors of the davinci code.... before you give it to much credit.

Have not read 'DaVinci', but my wife and many of our friends loved it.

I really should read more. I saw the History or Discovery channel show that poked a few holes in it, but I am sure it is still a good book and I will probably see the movie.

While we are recommending historical mystery novels with religous subject matter, there was a great one about 20 or 30 years ago: The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. It was translated from Italian into English. Great book!

It was made into an OK movie with Sean Connery, but the book is better!
