Why is my DSL so sloooooooow?

Since I've switched to Bellsouth DSL (from Earthlink), my service has sucked. I get no DSL sync early in the mornings, I've gone from 300K+ bps to like 25Kish. It's like abacus slow, like carrier pidgeon slow. What gives? I'm waiting 'till this weekend to read Bellsouth customer support the riot act, but what the hell is going on? I've installed all their little DSL filters on all the lines in the house, cleared my cookies and temp files, and so on. I didn't especially like Earthlink, but at least they were fast.

And from the cable crowd, please save the "DSL sucks, get cable" comments. If cable was available out in the boondocks, I'd be there.

Is the modem ran directly to the computer, or do you have a router?

The modem goes directly to the computer, no routers.

Best I know, there's no viri or spyware - I let Norton's do it's thing once a week. Just like a week before, this thing would fly with Earthlink's DSL. Now I'm at a crawl.

Hmm. I thought DSL was supposed to be a constant speed and not affected by traffic or anything.

Oh, I'm at a constant speed alright.

I tried that speed test and this is what I got:

Your line speed:

13767 K Bits/sec (Kbps)

1720.9 K Bytes/sec (KBps)

Pretty much matches my Verizon speed test results.

Prolly already been here, but unplug the modem...dont just power it off...unplug it. Wait at least 15 minutes then plug it back in, and turn the computer on...Its worth a shot. Very rarely do I slow down, but if I do that, it seems to clear things up for me.

Good luck....I hate PC problems
