In Absolute Disbelief
I know I don't post here much at all.... but I spend most of my free time while at work reading what all you guys have to write... and I must say it's kept me entertained because in one form or another I've visited this board for probably 5 years...
Anyway... I spent 8 years enlisted in the Navy fixing stuff on airplanes, cruising around the world on ships... got my degree... got out and moved home... Well.. I have missed it like I never missed anything in my life and to make a long story short I applied to be picked up as a commissioned officer...
I got the good news yesterday... I have been selected to attend Officer Candidate School.. then go on to Naval Flight Officer school... I'm finally going to get to fly for the Navy... it's been my one and only dream since I was like 4 years old and I saw the blue angels for the first time...
Anyway... I've never been this excited about something... and I know there are a bunch of prior/current military here that can appreciate this... There were three of us out of 25 selected to go... I'm freaking stoked...

Congratulations!! Your parents must be really proud of you. I regret getting out of the Navy. I was a corpsmen with the Marines. I loved being a grunt and a "medic grunt" to boot. I turned down BUDS school and a re-enlistment. I hate to even think about it. I was always told while I was with the Marines that I was good with a blade but better with a rifle.
Now, Im old and fat and good with a hammer!!
Good Luck my friend. Tip your wings for those Marines!!

Thanks for all the good words... And no... I don't believe I'll be giving up my 1 fiddy any time soon... All I know is that in the seven months that I've been out craporate america has seriously left a bad taste in my mouth... no camaraderie... no one even wants to goof off at work.. what's with that? I can't wait to get back into uniform where the world makes sense... Plus... a couple years in Pensacola Florida dosen't sound like bad duty to me at all...
and yes.. I believe I'd work on my own plane if they'd let me, getting back into tactical radar would be like a vacation from this dumb desk... I'll never forget where I came from or my enlisted experiences... those guys run the military... there's no doubt about that... and deserve all the respect in the world.. be in Navy, Marines, Air Force or Army... even most coasties I know are pretty cool..
