Do you use the Low gear on the shifter?

Do you ever pull your shifter down in low gear and use your truck locked in low. I have had several trucks and don't remember ever having the need. When I had a Mustang GT, I used it when racing, like a stick shift automatic. Just curious as to how it is used.

When bringin the big trailers down hill that 7.3L can really hold back locked in first. Otherwize we got the sticks for towing.

Yes but just for fun, the exhaust really sounds nice at high rpms when I let off...

Only when in stop and go traffic where speed is under 20, too often on the Baltimore beltway. Don't have to keep going back and forth between brake and gas so often.

I use it most when pulling the boat to the lake, there are several big hills, even though it's paved roads, speed limit is 20mph, so is easier than riding the brake all the way down.

I rarely use it for pulling, more often it is to low and spins teh tires, So I have to lock it in second to keep it from going in to 1st. I didn't even know that it would take off in second til the end of last summer and some one on here told me about it. Has since helped me numerous times. It's my first automatic truck... can you tell?

I think the only time I use it is when I cycle through all the gears prior to checking my automatic transmission fluid...

Low gear 4-low is usefull for pulling 24" base pine trees up out of a draw so you can cut them up on the road. Also works well for skidding single wide size buildings across a pasture. Most of this was done using 3/4 ton or 1 ton rigs though. Half tons can pull logs and work well for pulling other rigs stuck in canyons (thanks dad for the help ) .

I use it mostly when I am out in a field. I have found that with the truck locked into first it only takes a slight touch on the gas to get the truck moving and then the truck will proceed at a fast walk. Perfect for driving across a field when you don't want to kick up too much dust.

I'll stick with the standard for now

As much as people say automatic is so much easier for towing (and probably is for most people), I don't really do much towing as it is and I can't stand how boring an automatic is to drive!

That and standard impresses people now because nobody knows how to ****ing drive it... The dealership here doesn't carry a single new standard vehicle.

Not easier for me, the only time I have ever wished mine was a manual has been while towing. Every time I tow I hate the automatic. I am basically having to learn how to drive again... with a stinking automatic.. how weird is that?
Daily driving and commuting, I enjoy the automatic allot! Being able to smoke, eat or drink a soda, while driving.. easily, priceless.

Rarely. I think I've used it 7-8 times when we lived in Cordova, Alaska. The ski hill is pretty much in town and coming down the hill the speed limit is 25, I think those are the only times I've ever used 1st gear.
