I tried to talk my kids into going in but no luck. A friend of my youngest son went in and is a B52 mechanic in either Louisiana or Arkansas. I wanna say Barksdale AFB but I don't remember.

Minot was SAC when I was there also. It was a flat nasty desert like area, but the people made it what it was. I had such a good time there and made some of the best friends I have ever had. I still keep in touch with them to. I actually had one of my old buddys fly here from Texas and I drove him up to NYC to pick up a car he bought. It was great to see him again. I think Minot has the most extreme weather I have ever been in. Colder than cold winters and hot as blazes summers. I remember coming back from the flight line in the middle of winter after launching or doing EOR for the BUFF. Driving the jammers back we had to change drivers like 3 times in about a 1 mile run, other wise we would've gotten frost bite.

Anyway, thats too bad you couldnt get your kids to join. Its such a great experience.

I have been in only been in the Air Force for 2 1/2 years but, it hasn't been so bad. Stationed at Offutt airplane patch, and was TDY to Kyrgyzstan. Still have a little of 3 years left and can't decide if I want to stay in. There are no reenlistment bonus'es anymore so it's a hard decision. I'm an SP so my job sucks a big one many days out of the year, but it has also had some good times too.

In my opinion it makes no difference if you were active duty or not. You are just as much a vet, in my eyes, as I am or any others. Without the family and their support there would be no vets...

10 years Navy here...

On a side note I have Vet license plates and at least in New Hampshire you have to pay extra for them like a vanity plate even though you have to prove you’re a Vet with your DD214, no respect I tell you…

I just hope the extra $20 - $30 a year pays off if I ever do something a little outside the law, like 70mph on a 55mph turnpike…

USAF here. Jet engine mechanic. I was at Fairchild AFB from June 99 to June 2004. I went to Rhein-Main AB, Germany after that. I am at Spangdahlem AB, Germany now because Rhein-Main closed. I work on C-17s most of the time. There is a C-5 once in a while. I really want to stay in Germany for another tour.

Here are some German brews for all the vets and their supporters.

For some reason I was thinking you were USAF. I have a younger cousin who has been a Sub Mariner for 18 years now. And I think he is in Georgia now.

:
I'm surrounded by C17s to the North a few miles, C5s to the South a few miles and F16s where I work.

OOPS. Forgot the KC10s and KC/C/E135s also to the North.
