This is my little slice of heaven in the drawer next to my bed.

.40 cal. I think i'm about 5k rounds so far, no FTE/FTF. I am, however, always cleaning after a shooting session. I know that Glocks will take that kind of abuse, as do others, but no way in hell am I going to risk a round blowing my hand or face off.

Has anybody looked at the new S&W M&P 40? I had a Glock 30 for years and just recently sold it (stupid, stupid). I was looking at Glock 22's on Saturday when my buddy handed me his personal M&P 40. I am NOT a S&W fan, however, that was one fine hand gun. It will eventually be out in .45 acp soon as well for those that like to shoot trash can lid size holes in people (oops I mean targets).

My p22 looks like a mini p99.

And to compare the 1911 (of any model) to the glock, well there is no comparison. How many shots does you're 1911 hold, 8 or 9? The subcompact model 30 glock holds 10, while the fullsize holds up to 17 I think. A real benefit to "protection only" folks who don't practice.

Because it's important for some idiot who doesn't practice (or is a bad shot) to be able to take out as many bystanders as possible until he accidently hits his intended target.

Uneducated people shouldn't carry guns. But, for those who do, unload the mag is a simple way of shooting. I didn't say I agree with it, but when they go hunting for a gun thats one thing they are probably looking for and a percieved benefit to them. Personally, I need but one shot, and I don't even carry a full mag of 10, I usually only have 9

If I can't kill what needs to be dead with my 7 round magazine, I had no business shooting at it.

This isn't about Hollywood Gunfighting, it's about self defense.

For those that like the 1911, here's a pretty cool animation.....

I have a model 22 40 cal. Have had it for about 10 years and love it, although i don't shoot it that often.

On a side note, I recall you are from the lewistown area, how hard is it to find the lewistown pitol club, shooting there in a couple of weeks and they didn't send me directions yet, just 3 miles west of lewistown. I know where Dan Pierce's shop is and that is about it.

You won't be disappointed with the 40.

I'd personally stay away from S&W auto's unless you've fired alot of rounds through one. I know of several people that bought S&W autos, and after shooting them consistently, they couldn't wait to sell them. Problems generally were one of three things: 1. accuracy 2. they didn't perform well when slightly dirty, for example jamming, etc. 3. they ended up not liking the "feel".

I have a Kimber Pro Carry 1911, which I love. I had a Walther P99, until somebody broke into my house and stole it. That was a great gun and I plan on replacing it with another. I feel it is just as reliable as the Glock, the H&K, or any other. And yes I realize that some of the new Walthers, including alot of the P99's, are actually made by S&W, but its not a S&W designed gun.
My biggest complaint of the glocks is how it "feels" in my hand. I've just never found them to be very comfortable to shoot.

There is the "west shore sportsman club" right behind my house though

I'll stop at the local gun shop and see what they have and get some touchy feely with the Glocks

How about the G39? It's a .45 GAP and the same exact dimensions as the G27 and G33 besides the length is 6.30" vice 6.29". It is also the lightest of the Glocks without the magazine. Sure it's only a 6 shot mag without extension, but not bad for a powerful concealed weapon.

IMO - Guns are like cars/trucks...you should test drive them before buying. Go to a local gun range and rent different guns and calibers. The best gun in the "wrong hand" is worthless. I trust Glocks, but have seen lots of people that are very good with other pistols miss targets with Glocks. Find something that you shoot well and master it.
