You'll get addicted real quick...

Is your username the same as here? You need to come up with a signature item... Lots of people trade items and also leave a signature item... I see a lot of business cards made up with the Geocachers' names/logos, hometown, slogan, and cache find number for the cache they're placing it in...

I've been caching for about a year and a half and still don't have a signature item, but I have a Geocaching friend in Cali (I help him and his wife with their Havasu caches from time to time...) that has a laser etching setup and has made me keychains and Geo-chips as thank you gifts... They're really cool. I'll post pics sometime soon.

Yep, same username. If you search google for it, you'll see I am an internet *****.

A signature item. Hmm, interesting. I will figure that out as I learn more. Like a penny squashed on a train track for a signature item. Who knows. I will figure that out in time.

First step is get a GPS. I saw some at Wally World for about 85 bucks, but I will have to send the wifey, I hate Wal-mart with a purple passion.

Do you still have my email? If not, my "username" @ gmail.com.

Cool...

Just make sure whatever you get comes with the ability to connect to your PC/laptop via USB/serial... Otherwise you'll get pissed real quick with having to manually input the coords for the caches... Don't forget GSAK (See my post earlier in the thread...)

if you have a GPS with a Topo map... how detailed or zoomed in can you get?

I'm mainly wanting a GPS for hiking and mountain bike riding, but would like to use it while driving for navigation also and have found the Garmin Quest and Quest 2... But I'm not sure how detailed the GPS will get for zooming into trails (Say you were lost, and want to know how far from the trail you are...)

Current public sector GPS technology is accurate to within 30ft +/-

You would need some good topo software that has the trails in it, so you can download them onto the GPS... Zoom on my GPS takes me in to where 1/2" = 100ft

PS- Your final concern would be null and void, with a GPS, good batteries, and knowing how to use the GPS... Unless you are in thick tree cover... Then the GPS becomes null and void!!!

I'm with you on this. My first step is getting a GPS. I also found a bunch of caches in my home town as well. I am dying to go "treasure hunting". I still haven't figured out what I want to use as a signature item, but it's gonna be cool. You wait. I'll have the wifey help me decide.

I think it would be fun but I just do not see how you guys have the time for it. I have to many chores to do around the house.

I have tons of chores too. But, if one doesn't make time for him/her self, your asking for trouble. I have to take a few hours out of the weekend to do the things I WANT to do (I cant wait for spring). Otherwise, I might go insane, and you'll hear about me on the 10 o'clock news.

I think it will do me some good to get out and take the kids out for a hunt. Easter eggs were cool to hide for the kids, but they are growing up and a challenge will be more exciting.

Not only that, this will be a good time to show the kiddo what exactly a computer is good for. When she see's that a computer is a tool, hopefully she will understand them better. Plus, it might give her some ideas of a very successful career. Archeologist or something, who knows.
