I stomped on the gas peddle a couple of times and tried to crank ... it started and ran like nothing was the matter.

Now, if my reflexes (and/or knowledge of what to do) was lacking they would have been scrapping my azz off a Cement truck's bumper. My smashed body would have been ticketed for running a red light by the police and the insurance company would have had to pay damages... Would it have been my fault (for not knowing what to do) or the manufacturers fault because they installed a faulty part?

I called my sales guy (friend) and told him what happened and he contacted the service department and arranged for them to take care it. They replaced the throttle body and some other parts and "suggested" this was becoming a problem with some makes they sell.

Tough call on where you draw the line of responsibility, when it comes to these situations.

Good post and I agree,

I sold the truck with 18K miles on it and only 26 months old... I doubt it was a maintenance issue.

It's the american way, hell I think I will "sew" ford too just because I read this thread and mine might do the same thing.

If the gas stuck why not just push er up in neutral and hit the brakes?

I'm going to sue the weather man. He said sunny skies today with no snow, and we had clouds all day with an inch of snow about! He lied, I'm suing!

If you can't remember to put it in neutral, just hit the brakes. There is not a vehicle made that can overpower a properly functioning brake system.

Reminds me of the Audi 5000 cases from years ago. 'Unintended Acceleration'. The lawsuits nearly ruined Audi. People claimed that even though their foot was pushing the brake pedal to the floor, the vehicle jumped forward into their garage wall. The juries (and the TV show 60 Minutes) did not seem to care that it would take about 10,000 horsepower to overcome a locked up 4 wheel brake system.

IMO , if you are driving with an adequate safety margin and you don't panic or brain freeze, there is virtually no situation where a stuck throttle will cause you to crash.

I remember reading an article years ago that showed that in a huge % of accidents, people just don't react properly to an unexpected situation. Basically their brain locks up while they try to figure out what to do. By the time they take corrective action, its too late and impact is inevitable.

Here's a test.

Start your F-150, put it in drive, put your left foot on the brake, the right on the accelerator and press both as hard as you can.

Your truck won't move--even with the accelerator floored. The only way it will is if your foot is not on the brake...in other words the driver of the vehicle was pushing the accelerator and thought they were pushing the brake--it happens all the time.

Like DBD was saying about Audi, you can't overcome the power of the brakes. The case against Audit slowly spiralled down to just about the thinnest argument imaginable--the relationship of the brake pedal to an imaginary line extending from the middle of the seat to the middle of the pedal assembly. The plaintiff tried to say the accelerator was actually at an offset from that line that most drivers would expect the brake pedal to be located. I don't know what happened with the argument but whatever the case I don't think that's every been alleged in an F-150 anyhow.

Can Ford sew people for being stupid, and reproducing?

Hey, I'm just asking.

Remember "Buffalo Bob" from 'Silence of the Lambs'? He went around sewing the pants off of everyone that crossed his path.
