If it was mine, I'd run out to Circuit City or Best Buy, buy, and install an new hard drive and do a clean install on there. Once the OS is up and running, plug the 'old' drive in as a slave drive (be sure to re-set the jumper appropriately) and pull all the data off it. You can import all your e-mails, photos, music, etc from the old drive before reformatting it, plus you have a back-up drive to archive all your stuff onto now.
But if it's a Dell and still under warranty, and you actually WANT them to help you, you're probably going to lose it all.....

Thats what I would do, and have done.

I can click on My Computer, but everything is blank. Won't let me open any file.

See now thats funny...
I was gonna get on our dog toting Texan but I think ya topped him.
Good one
Have you tried running an "error ckecking" on the drive?
If you can't view your drive under "my computer" try doing a "start" "run" and then type " explorer " and that will bring up the windows explorer. Hopefully that will let you see the c: and you right click on that. Go to "properties" "tools" and "error checking" click the "check now" button. Check both boxes and tell it to check on restart after you hit ok. Reboot and it'll probably take forever and a day (a couple hours).

You could also try a "start" "settings" "control panel" go to "administrative tools" and then to "computer management" That should get you to the drive so you can right click on it and go to properties. From there you can run the error checking.
I hope that's how you get to the control panel in the winxp mode. I always switch xp to classic mode.

Thanks again.....luv ya's!!!

I'll email you my address tonight!
Once you get it all up and running again. . .back-up -- back-up -- back-up!! I keep all the important files on a CD-RW which I put all new files on monthly. I lost a hard drive 4-5 years ago along with all my info, lessons learned, the hard way.
