locked-out

I had a perfect day today up until now. I picked my brother from school and when we got home I told him I was going to get more gas since I was close to being empty. Anyways I went inside to get some money and for some reason my brother locked the doors with the truck still on. I called every locksmith and the soonest they can be here is in thirty minutes. I don't think my truck can hang on for that long or can it? I'm running close to empty. This sucks.

Now that this has happened I remember my dad telling me to get a spare key because he said sooner or later I would leave the keys inside. Although this one was not my fault.

Wifes exploder has a Key pad, it and Key fob are both disabled if vehicle is running. My truck the Key fob is disabled.

I have locked keys with key fob in the back seat twice shortly after I bought the truck. Went to pick somethign up out of the back seat drop them in the floor board with intetions to pick them up later and forget. Had to call my wife to come with the spare each time. So I went to walmart and had a 97¢ door key made and carry it in my wallet behind my drivers license. It will open the door but it will not start the truck. It's still in the carboard carry case I have not needed it since then.

The factory installed, hard wired keypads will work when the vehicle is running. The dealer-installed $99 keypads are wireless and are basically the same thing as the key fob thing on your keychain except they have a number pad. They will not work when the vehicle is running.

Interesting, I have 2 key rings. One for the truck keys and a few others, and one my house keys and the key fob for the truck. I can lock and unlock the doors with the engine running and me out of the vehicle, no problems. Do it that way when I have to get out for a quick stop.

Thanks guys, I stand corrected. The keypad works with the truck running. The key FOB is the only thing disabled with a key in the ignition.
The last time I was locked out with the truck running was with the old 97, it had no keypad. This 02 works from the keypad regardless of the position of the ingnition.

I dont have a key pad on mine, I have the quick disconnect key ring with key fobs to all the vehicles and the keys to the houses on one side and the igntions keys on the other. The idea was to leave it running while I ran in the store or the house then unlock it with the key fobs. Good thing I tested it first. Wifes first exploder, I started it, rolled down the window, got out and locked it. Then tried to unlock it with the key fob. Had to reach in the window and unlock it. Then the alarm started going off, then had to shut it off shut the door and lock it back before the alarm would shut off.
I was like Dude... I just want in my own vehicle, you dont have to make such a fuss.

Yea I talk to my cars, so what.

Last time I was down in Florida while I was on my way to my friends house I pulled over to uh, relieve myself, in some back parking lot on Miami Beach... and for whatever reason I hit the door lock button before I shut the door.

My keypad is broken (been meaning to get that fixed), and its about a quarter after midnight and I'm standing beside the only vehicle parked in the corner of a dark parking lot next to a shady looking alley with its lights on.

Looks good right?

About five minutes of me trying to break into my own truck... I decide to call AAA, and meanwhile a couple cops on patrol drive up.

Fantastic...

I was expecting a Miami Beach drug/vice squad beat down... but they were good sports about it after I explained my bladders situation and even gave me the number of a couple tow companies that could jimmy my car.

The bastards wanted $80, so I decided to wait for AAA... and about 20 minutes and two of the cops cigarettes later some locksmith dude rolls up in a Scion, asks for my name, and opens my truck without a sweat in a single sweeping motion of a slim-jim.

I wonder what he does when he isnt working....

Interesting, on my 04 both the fob and keypad work with engine running and no one inside.
