[QUOTE=wild-mtn-rose]I have a question???

Are all of the millions of cell phone users in this country women?

No, probably a good half are men and guess what, the men on cell phones are just as obnoxious and inattentive as the women. It angers me that I'm lumped into this group of apparent bimbos when women aren't the only guilty parties. I don't even own a cell phone and I'm a damn good driver!! [/QUOTE

You go Rose!!!!!

I was in a closed session meeting last night at one of our public buildings. There was a need for some of the participants to stay in touch with emergency personnel. They discovered their cellphones didn't have service in the building. The Chairman polled each and every one of us to see if our personal cells had service in the building. Nobody had service. I thought everyone was going to panic. I finally looked behind our meeting table, and there was a desk with a traditional phone just sitting there. I pointed it out, and you'd think I discovered gold!

We have recently banned them in our courthouse. We need to extend that to autos, retail establishments, elevators, public transportation, etc.

I do work in one of the area high schools. I see the kids walking around between classes. I'd guess that 80% of them are on cell phones.

My girl and I were at a movie theater watching a bad movie. About every ten minuets some one would open their cell phone and alluminate a large area of this small theater. The movie, Matchpoint, was lousy but the cell phone were extremely annoying.

I think cell phone are almost as evil as my boss and if it werent for the possible emergency where it is needed I would have it disconnected. I have even been kicking around the idea of doing just that anyway to save myself $50 a month.
$50 a month?
I pay less than 20 for mine. I get 50 minutes local or 30 minutes long distance. I don't use it but one in a blue moon. I keep it mainly for emergency contact use.

I wish I didn't have to drive while talking on my phone, but it is a company phone and I am always out and about in the city at a jobsite and other people may have to get ahold of me. I also have to call our dispatcher alot. I try and call before I leave a site, but we only get a certain amout of time to get to the next location that many times I can't.

I forgot my phone today when my fiance and I went out for a while and it sure was nice not having people call me all the time.

Oh yeah, I learned something the other night that I did not know. We have 2 major Navy bases here and sometimes, I have to go and work on their ATM's. I got on and worked on one and when I was leaving, someone called me as I was driving toward the exit of the base. This one puts up barriers at night so you have to zig zag around them at a very slow speed. Well a guard walks out to stop me and said that it is against the law to drive on any Department of Defense installation while talking on a cell phone unless handsfree(mine is broke) was being used. He said the fine was $50 but only gave me a warning. I told all the other techs, not to be on the phone when on the miltary bases.

That would have sucked, getting a $50 dollar ticket because I didn't know

I don't annoy easily, but cell phones are rubbing me the wrong way. I can't believe how EVERYONE has a cell phone these days. Just a few years ago it seems there were none. They are great to have while on the road or for emergency. I have one and use it soley for business. There is no way I'm going to let that thing be my ball and chain. I don't carry it with me in stores or call friends just to be yapping in the line at the super market. Last time I was in the mall (a rare event in itself), I think there were more people ON cell phones than not! Walking down the halls by stores on the phone. WTF???

Same goes for driving and talking. It's only talking, and it's the same thing to talk on a cell or talk to a guy sitting next to you. The problem comes when a person who can't drive in the first place gets so into their cell phone conversation about Jack breaking up with Jill, that they no longer watch the road. I can easily drive and talk on my phone during a business call with a customer. It's the person, not the phone, causing all the trouble with accidents. The phone didn't wreck the car!
Not gun control, not cell phone control... people control!

I get the screws put to me by Sprint every month. The good thing about this company is that I don't have to worry about local and long distance. It is a nation wide plan. This "Nation wide coverage" could also fall under false advertisment though cause I can never get service unless they mean "no mater where you go in the country you can bet your last dollar that you will not get service."

If it were not for having to go through all the BS connection fees, outragious deposits, and all that crap I would switch companies, but before I go through that again I will just toss my phone in the trash and not have one at all.

I hate them too but sometimes you have to use them.
Personally, if I have to make / take an important call while driving, I pull over because I honestly believe if you yap and drive, you are cruising to get in an accident one day. I don't think it's a matter of "if", but "when"

I picked up a new phone with built in speaker phone, and if I have to take a quick call while driving, I find it much easier to concentrate talking on speaker and not having to hold it up to my ear.

I remember when they first came out, and they were the size of a brick, my buddy bought a fake one just to show off.
Everytime a bunch of girls would walk by, he would pull it out of its giant holster, put it to his head, and pretend like he was talking to his stock broker.... "I said sell 10,000 shares of x, and by 5,000 worth of GE" LOL.

What a ****!

Then you have the people who are "Hey everyone, look at my, I have a cell phone"
My bro is the worst, he never holds it with his left hand, but when he's driving, it always in his left hand, window fully rolled down, and hand out the window with his head slightly ****ed so everyone can see him yapping.

Bleh.

We survived many years without cellphones. So why can't people turn them off in restaurants, stores and movie theaters?

So is the wrong thread to ask which phone I should get to replace my RAZR??

I use around 2000 minutes a month for business, I've had 2800 dollar cell bill when there was roaming and long distance charges. So the point is my brain is fried. But, I am still able to function inline with out a cell phone (I may use it wondering the store), It's off at all theaters dinners, lunches, and breakfasts, thats why they have voicemail. And I have a hands free kit in my truck. Whick elicits some strange looks sometimes. I'll be yelling or pissed off about something and using my arms to talk and someone will drive by and stare at me like I am crazy. Its half true but hey, at least I'm paying attention to the road. I know this about people who have no manners but there are a few of us that need them for work.

you are an exception. I am a liberal, no way, I am going to discriminate. The fact of the matter is, women do it more than men. And men are better drivers than women. So, you put the weaker women drivers out there with cell phones and it is a devil of a mess.

Case in point, before cell phones came out, women did most the yapping on the phones with the buddies than men. Just like men bang the beer, talk cars/trucks/motorcycle more than women.

It's going to get real crazy out there, real crazy.
