Weird/Unexplained phenomena in your life
There was the time my roommates and I sat up, shooting the s**t all night, knowing we were having an “Alert” the next morning at 3:00 AM, and that we’d have to drive to Aschafenberg, West Germany (Germany) in order to do our mission. I was in Wurzburg, so that was quite a drive.
We’d worked all that day, and had been up all that night when the Bell rang. Still full of energy, we all jumped up, got dressed, ran to dispatch and got our vehicles, and staged them. All this was done before the Sergeants got there. It was about 4 degrees (F) that morning, so I sat in the hummer with the heater blasting (The only time the heat works in an Army Hummer is when it's sitting still).
About 4:15, the Sergeants sowed up, and I got sleepy as Hell. We motor-marched at 4:30, and my squad leader (Shotgun) was asleep before we even left the post.
I saw a sign that said Aschaffenberg 127 Km. I knew that was bout 72 miles. When I knew anything, we were exiting off the Aschaffenberg, and I was waking up. I don't remember anything except merging onto autobahn 3 just outside Wurzburg... God in Heaven only knows how we got there, because I was asleep and so was SGT Turner. Talk about stupid… But, they say God takes care of fools and little children. I was a fool that night. I was so tired, my SGT actually let me get about 2 hours sleep from about 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM before we got approval to come back in. That two hours felt like 12. I never did that again, but I have fallen asleep behind the wheel 3-4 more times.
That was weird, but- I survived. (Thank God).
Now-a-days, I RARELY set a time that I’m leaving to go anywhere. When I wake up “naturally” that’s when I get up, load the truck, and hit the road.
No more half-asleep driving if I can help it…

Weird-event #2.
It was June 2003 and the wife and I were relaxing in the bed, one overcast, sorta- cool (for June), misting/rainy Texas morning. Wife worked 1:00 - 10:00 PM, and I worked 3:00 - Midnight. It was about 9:20 AM.
We were watching a Maury Povich (Who’s my Baby’s Daddy) episode, just chilling.
All of a sudden, a man walked across our roof. A heavy man; easily 300 – 400 lbs, judging by the foot steps. The dogs jumped up barking, and my wife was like “Who in the Hell is that?” I said, “Be-damned if I know!” and I jumped up, and threw on some sweats.
We had just had our roof replaced thanks to a hail-storm two months earlier, and I thought they may have come out to do a QC Spot check. So, I run down the hall, and to the front door at break-neck speed (6 MPH). I snatched the door open, and nothing.. No truck, no dude, nothing. I ran out in the yard (Having followed the direction of the steps) still no man, no truck. I walked all the way around the house, and there was no man, no truck or anything.
No truck pulled away, there was no ladder, nothing.
I went all the way around the house, and when I got back, my wife was at the front door. “Did you see anybody?” she asked. “Nope.” I replied.
I started thinking about the Predator, but I was unarmed, so I wasn’t concerned.
To this day, neither of us know whom or what walked across our roof, but it was something, and it was something big & heavy…

It might have been your soul....
First stange thing, that is called highway hypnosis. Happens all the time. Thank God nothing out of the ordinary happened during the drive your reaction time would have been triple or greater. Due to the sleep deprvation your mind had essentially began to shut down un-needed resoureces so it could rest. Memory being one that it decided it did not need. It did not care where you'd been it just needed to know where you were going.
Strange thing number two: Sometimes as a building settles, or during contrasting enviroment changes, the materials will move across the span of the building in a domino effect. This can sometimes be slow and as each board falls into it's new place if it is the roof decking setteling then it could sound as though somebody is walking across the roof.
In that paticular instance boards would be wanting to swell do to the moisture they would be absorbing out of the misty air, you said it was cool so did you have the heat on? If so then 1/2 of each board is wanting to swell due to heat from the house, while the extrior is wanting to contract from the cool of the outside. This causes a twisting which is probably most likely what you exoerinced. you heard one board giving and several others follow as they now have room to.
Not saying that's what it was, just saying that there is a logical explanation.
I have experinced several strange unexplained things, but I do not have the words to describe them.

Alrighty, here's mine...
I grew up in an old house built around 1900. It was a stone lower floor with roughly 18"-20" thick walls, and standard framed "newer" (1920's or 30's) second floor and attic. All 3 bedrooms were upstairs along with one bathroom. Due to a bad hip and back Mom usually chose to sleep on the couch downstairs. Said it was more comfortable...
It was just my mother, sister and myself. Sis moved out when I was 14. They both have odd stories as most people who live in old houses do. I can remember many nights falling asleep to footsteps in the attic. I'm sure it was just an old house shifting, but as a kid you could never convince me of that.
There were at least two strange moments that I cannot however explain. Others I'm sure, but these two always stand out in my memory. and no I've never done any drugs and rarely drink, never did back then...
When I was about 8 or 9 mom got me a fish tank. I had stocked it with small fish I caught down at the river, and it was the coolest thing. I remember just sitting there watching the fish many times almost lost. Well, one night I was watching the fish when i noticed someone walk by my bedroom door. No big deal even though I didn't hear the stairs or hallway creak like they always did when someone walked on them. But then I felt/heard someone walk up behind me, and still I just assumed it was Mom. When I saw a hand lean on the shelf beside me I looked over and no one was there. I nearly freaked. Slowly walked to my door called to my sister and Mom. Mom was downstairs, and I knew by her bad hip/back she hadn't run up or down the stairs, and sis was at a friends house. Hadn't been home for a while, and didn't get home till late. I still have no idea what I saw. Maybe I was half asleep and dreamed it or maybe there really was something there...
The other time happened a few years later. Mom had just got back from the grocery store, and started carrying in the grocery when she accidently locked the car door. She told me to go in and get the keys off the shelf. I went in the house, and looked and looked, but never could find them. She almost always sat them on the table by the front door. Well, I gave up and started towards the front door, when I heard something behind me. no one else was home, so it kind of startled me. I couldn't even tell you now what I heard, just that it startled me. It caused me to turn just a little, enough to see a hand from the corner of my eye pointing toward a grocery sack on the floor. Inside were Mom's key. I grabbed them and ran outside, and would not go back till Mom went in with me...
I'm sure there are other stories about that old house. It was a really neat old place out in the country, and living in town now I REALLY miss it. Mom always said she felt a presence there she couldn't explain, but it always made her feel safe. and other than her falling down the stairs without really getting injured nothing bad ever happened there... So, who knows... Not I...

I bet it was Sasquatch. They are sneaky like that.
Yeah, the don't build'em like the used to.
My house had wood-shigle roof, with composite overlay. After that hail storm they had to scrape off both roofs(sp).
I still have the horizontal slats that supported the wood-shingles, and they gave me a whole new deck on top of that, finished off with 30-year shingles.
All the boards supporting my roof (except the horizontal slats) are 2" x 6" s.
The newer houses being built, are all 2 x 4. My house had a stud every 14-inches, the new houses, the guy told me, have them every 16 - 18 inches; depending on the builder...
My house is on the older side (1979), but, the newer ones aren't nearly as well-built, not unless you go custom, and then, maybe...
I thought my place was old; but I was being force-fed some TLC the other day, and there was a couple on there in the upper eastern USA, whose house was built in 1720!!!!
17-freaking-20!
That house has been there since before the United States was born...
It's been refurbished a lot, I'm sure. But, for the structure to still be standing after the termites have had 286 years to nibble on it, tells me they REALLY don't build them like they used to....

That's no doubt.
My dad built my house 27 years ago. I bought it from him 11 years ago. It had a flat roof dad was going to build up but never did. After I bought it the flat roof started giving us trouble. repairs by myself and hiring contractors were not lasting more than a few months. So we dicided to just stick a regular roof on it. I talked to a roofer and he came up with a hip roof that complimented teh house well. So we did. we found out tha tthe original flat roof was 2x10 rafters on 16" center with 1x decking. 16" center is still often used to date becasue of ice and snow but 2x10's are not and 1x decking is never used. Ussually 2x4's or engineerd beams and ply wood decking.
He had some hand sketches drawn up of his plans but we didn't go over details. When the lumer yard delivered the wood... it was 2x4's. I laughed and said your kidding right? No that was what they wanted to use. I sent it back and ordered 2x8's They brought that out and I sat there and went thru every bundle looking at each stick. Eneded up having to reject probably 70% of tehm due to excessive knot holes, twisted, curved, and other non suitable flaws. So I picked what I wanted had the lumber yard come out and get the rest and bring another load. I went thru it. Took me I belive 4 loads to get enough good lumber to use just to build a roof.
Then the decking was delivered....
I sent it back too, they were going to use partical board sheets. LOL
I ordered 1x's.
I know the contractor/builder and the lumber yard hated me. But it has not leaked or sagged and I have not lifted a finger to maintain it in 9-10 years since it was built. Guttering on the other hand... It's never been right. I never can remeber to call to have somebody redo it. Only time I think about it is when it's raining.

CIA, didn't you start a thread like this about 2 or 3 years ago?
Copied from the "other" thread:
Lets see. I saw a ghost when I was 15 or 16. My brother saw it too because he came running (or should I say "Falling") down the stairs and he was scared senseless. His eyes were as big as half-dollars, he was white as a ghost. All he could say is it was floating, had the figure of a man, and it was black with red eyes.
And at about the same time, a mirror just flew off the wall and shattered right were I was laying in the floor when I was watching tv. Luckily I saw it coming, and my Mom screamed, and I rolled out of the way. I think all this happened because we were playing with a ouijji board with my neighbor. I know, I had a weird childhood. This is all a true story. Hard to fathom huh? Believe it? Or Not?
And the other weird thing that happened to me:
Oh, I forgot one! About 3 years ago, my Dad and I were sitting downstairs watching an episode of Jag on tv. He's sitting in his easy chair, and I'm laying in the floor next to the tv.
All of a sudden I hear tires squeeling and a "KA-THUMP" sound. The next thing you know, about 2 seconds later, the whole wall in the room we were in just explodes. All I hear is a deafening BOOM!, and I could see the walls coming down. A truck had just came through our house! It sounded like a stick of dynamite went off right there in the living room.
It hit a 500 lbs bookcase and threw it 10 feet across the room and hit me in the leg. It didn't break it, but it had a pump knot on it about 3 " high. I think it was fractured though, because I had problems out of that leg going on well over a year after the incedent. My Dad caught a bunch of debris which cut him up a little.
He got out lucky. There was a broken 2x4 that had split and came to a sharp point. And it stopped one inch before it got to where he was sitting. If it had went any further, well you know...

I have incredibly detailed DeJa Vu. I'm not toalking daily or even weekly but several time a year It will stop me in my tracks knowing I have been in the same situation before. To me it is sometimes bothersome. Because, considering we only use 10% of our brain I really think there are things hidden in there that could be used on levels we may never understand. Its just the Deja Vu has been mundane things as of yet, the next time I will write it down. Its just you feel the same feelings, smells, the environment are all the same, its like stepping into a movie scene your already played in.

The latest and greatet theory on deja vu...(Don't ask how I know) Everyone knows there are two halves to the brain. a left hemishpere and a right one. They both operate in perfect synchonization. But when they do get out of sync, by nano seconds, for a nano second (1/1000 of a second) the right(left) hemisphere taks in the scene or activity, then the left(right) does. Hence the feeling of being there twice, or repeating the same activity. Because in your minds eye, you have...
My own surreal expirience:
I was in high school and racing dirt bikes all the time. As I was sitting in my garage rebuilding the top end of my KTM, the TV in there turned on, stayed on for about 3 min, and turned back off. I figured that a little moisture had gotten into the circuitry and caused it to turn on. I thought that all the way up until I noticed that the power cord was unplugged, and hanging down beside it.
I don't know much about TV's, but I don't believe that there are any capacitors in there large enough to power it for 3 minutes.
