PSS - thanks for the help, my two youngest brothers (4 and 5) just got over strep the other day. Interior work I can do, and motor work I am pretty handy with, but I am still learning this carb thing, but my father happens to know just about everything with cars and he likes projects like these, he just doesn't have time for one himself, but he loves helping me with my projects... You've never mentioned this, but how big is the boat and what model is it? And because I'm an idiot when it comes to boats, will there be any difference between the marine engine and the automotive engine?

I belive that it is 22'
It is an open bow Baja
A marine engine is built a little stronger than an automotive engine. As Brew has put it before. A boat engine works as hard as a truck pulling a trailer up hill all day.
The automotive engine will work but not as long. But we ran the corvette engine for 5 years before it blew up. The 283 should last longer than the 350 becasue it's a stronger engine.
The carb isnt a big deal, if you can remove 4 bolts... then you can take it off. If you can put them back in then you already know how to put a new carb on.

If nothing else, you can always send the carb out to be rebuilt. I would guess no more than $100 to have it done.

Sad part is when I tell them my prices, they try to haggle with me. I tell them to go to Crap Buy and see what they charge for installation, and give me a call back. When they do call me back, I go up by $10.

Honestly I wouldn't rebuild it, I wouldn't even mess with this one even if it runs like a top. Simply becasue it is a 4brl and you won't notice the difference in it and a 2 brl except in how long your tank of fuel last. I'd spend $200 for a brand new 2brl and slap that bad boy on it.

How about I work on seeing it and buying it and THEN we can worry about the carb?

Not as sad as me.... I just tell them to go buy the parts.

It depends who the friends are for me. If they have helped me with my truck before and know thing about cars, then we help eachother out all the time. If they don't know squat about cars, then I don't want them near my truck or helping with the install. I fixed a botched sub install once when the previous kid tried to cut a hole in the firewall using a wood hole saw....

I pretty much do it no charge for everybody.

If they can't help me with the car then there will be something else that I may need help with sometime and if they can do it then they owe me.

Yea...but there's nothing these kids could really do for me, the reason they have me do it is because they have never had to work in their lives, their parents paid for everything. I learned how to do everything because I would have had to pay for it all to get fixed. It's all in how you're brought up.

That's how I learned, it was either fix it yourself or walk.
